So...on a positive note, it looks like we're going to get some tasty customization in the way of the new paradigm in drones; wavelength. I've not researched this greatly, merely read the dev blog
It occurs to me that it's probably something ike your ship+mods+skills gives you a wavelength strength. Small, medium, and large drones will all use progressively more wavelength per active drone, so, in this model, you could have your standard 5 heavies, maybe 10 mediums, and 15 lights (just as an example).
Now, I'm all for that because it brings in yet another level of drone-uberness (I have just a pube under 6.5 million sp in drones), but has there been any discussion on how the network load was relieved after they nerfed my cloud-o-death...ie 15 tech 2 ogres from an Ishtar. I understood why they did what they did with Red Mood Rising, but has there ever been a disclosure of how successful that was?
Cuz...if it wasn't, I want my 15 ogres back :)

Unless they change the Drones skill, you can still only field 5 max. ----- I've heard shuttles don't tank very well.

Edited by: NoNah on 20/09/2007 00:41:39 You won't be able to field more than 5 active drones on any normal ship. This is because of lag issues. Of course they might change their minds, but after such a nerf, I doubt it.
Most likely the only thing bandwidth will do, is force the myrmid and vexor to use medium drones, instead of heavies. And remove the option to use 5 Ogre II's on a raven.
Oh, and it wasn't really a nerf, you got 5 drones working at 3 times the strength instead of 15 drones.

There is no intention of being able to field more drones than your drone skill allows. All the bandwidth (not wavelength) does is provide another way to limit the drones ships can field. The reasoning behind this is to allow smaller craft (like the Ishkur) to get a massively bigger drone bay, while not letting it field more dps as a result. For instance, currently, if you have a 25m¦ drone bay, this means you can field 5 lights. Get a 50m¦ drone bay, and suddenly you can field 5 mediums. The goal of bandwidth is to let them give a 50m¦ drone bay to a ship, but still limit it to flying just 5 lights, but the bigger drone bay allows for carrying backups or different kinds of drones.

5 from "drones V" 5 more from "advanced drone interface V + modules" and 15 more from "carrier V" = 25 fighters,
neat ^_^ aint it!

I thought there usd to be a rig/mod that allowed +1 drone per rig? I take it that is now gone.

Don't hold your breath on more drones. It's 5 max because it makes more sense in terms of lag to have more powerful but fewer drones.
