Edited by: Rutaar on 24/09/2007 20:09:03 Well, i have a trip of about 55 jumps ahead of me. Mostly high-gankzone-wannabe-heroez places. Now in order for me to survive this trip, how should i fit my raven? Stabs + Cloaking device + MWD?
What do you recommend fitting so i survive as many gank gates as possible.

Well, i could make an fresh out of the box alt for my other account. Probably could use that as a scout. But i find it difficult jumping between windows (will get another monitor soon). Uber |

good luck getting out of a bubble cloaked, even with MWD... scouts are a must
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
I just moved a Raven in to 0.0 a couple hours ago. 3x Warp Core Stab, 2x Inertia Stab, 100mn MWD and a cloak. Standard combat fitting other than those. Turned out to be no hostiles en route, but better safe than sorry.
If you've got a buddy with a dreadnought with expanders and cargo rigs, most of them have the capacity to fit a battleship.
Definately get a scout. Using two windows isn't too bad. just view them in windowed mode and click to switch between them. Make the windows smaller than your screensize so you can click on the window behind the current one to bring it up front. place your local window appropriately so you can see local even if one of the windows is behind the other (in case someone jumps in behind you or something).
If you don't have a scout you risk your ship (which as it should be, it is 0.0 after all).
If you don't want to risk it.. buy one out there or wait until your new corp has an op which comes into low-sec and ride their coat tails back out.
Practice a bit in hi-sec; it's not all that difficult once you get the sequence down. Once you get the trick of it, then you would be very unlucky to lose your BS. Not saying that it might not take you a long while, but you shouldn't lose your ship if you are careful, patient and meticulous.
With a raven, I would fit 2x iStab, 3x WCS in the lows. MWD, Invuln x 2, EM, Burst ECM, LSE in the mids. T2 cloak in the high, cruise loaded with FoF if you just have to have weapons fitted, but tbh aggro is not what you want. If you're fitting to run, try and avoid fighting.
55 jumps... you may find it less effort to liquidate your assets and purchase a new ship closer to your destination.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |
Surely a true hero like yourself doesn't have to rely on stabs etc. to get by these wanna-bes.
If you don't want to scout with an alt, there are some alternatives (ha!). Through judicious use of the map, you can detect potential gate camps and minimize the chances of losing your ship. Systems to watch out for:
High sec -> low sec Any sec -> 0.0 sec
Before you embark on your journey, open the map with your destination set. Check the systems on your path for:
Ships/pods destroyed in the last 1/24 hours. Average number of players active in system in the last 30 minutes. Jumps in the last hour.
All of these things give you important information. Ships/pods destroyed in the last hour signify a gate camp is active right now. Close to 100% chance that you will get ganked if you enter said systems. I would either avoid these systems, or be prepared for combat/evasive maneuvers. If the system in question is 0.0, you have 0% chance of survival as this is a bubble camp and is inescapable in a battleship.
Ships/pods destroyed in the last 24 hours allows you to see systems which are frequently camped. These systems are dangerous but might not be currently camped. If you don't have an alt scout, you can dock your battleship, make sure your clone is updated and use a shuttle to scout out the system. If the gate isn't camped, check local. Use your judgment to decide if it would be wise to pass through this system.
Pilots active in the last 30 minutes allows you to see how "crowded" a system is. Just because there are no ship/pod deaths in a system doesn't mean it isn't camped, especially 0.0 systems. This statistic will let you know how many people were recently in this system. high levels of pilots in low sec/0.0 systems mean danger. It would be safe to once again dock your battleship and use a shuttle to scout a bit.
Jumps in last hour tell you how much traffic a system is getting. High traffic systems mean a higher chance of running into an enemy. Be on your guard in high traffic low sec/0.0 systems as this is what pirates can use to find profitable systems for pirating.
A rule of thumb is that you are *reasonably* safe when traveling from low sec->low sec, or from 0.0 sec-> 0.0 sec. For the love of CCP, please don't go AFK through low/0.0 sec space! But if you are flying on instas, you are reasonably safe. When ever you are changing security, you are putting yourself in harms way (sadly unavoidable) and need to be on your guard.
A few other suggestions: Keep local open Show info is your friend Watch your overview constantly.
Fly safe.
