Illegal
Maybe this will be a lesson to the others in this country here illegally...
I dunno I don't quite understand immigration policy. If someone wants to work here, and someone wants to hire him, I don't see why legal status has to be such a headache. Seems kind of ******** sometimes, especially in a case like this.

~14 million workers in this country are not paying taxes.
If you're here illegally, you run the risk of losing it all like this guy...
He should not have broke the law and worked here illegally. Hopefully the company that hired him is fined...
Quote: $59.000. Imagine how much you got to work when you earn $5.50 an hour. Poor guy, hope he gets sorted soon.
I doubt he'll get any of it back...
That's not really true, many illegal workers pay into social security. I'm not disagreeing that he broke the law, I just find immigration policy ********. Just questioning the logic of the whole process. If someone can find work here then getting status should be easy, imo. More hard workers in a society = better society.
But what's really messed up is that they pretty much spit in his face, they gave him legal status to work to buy a ticket to go back home. That's messed up =.

With a stole SSN... Another illegal activity...
Yes, they do illegal things, but it's really not that devious. They just want to come here and work hard, it's actually quite noble, they're go getters. The richest families in America do and did some pretty underhanded things to get there, but in the end they were go getters. I'm not really a fan of such Harsh immigration policy. yes we should do background checks, criminal record checks, etc. But As long as people have an employer I don't see why it should be hard to become legal.

Originally by: Micheal Dietrich IF they pay into SS. If your paid under the table, you don't exist. No SS is taken out, no Fica, no taxes. This also means your company doesn't have to claim you so they don't have to pay out either, and they don't have to put insurance on you if it's applicable. Kind of a win win until your caught.
It's not just illegals that are paid off the books, there's lots of children and things like that paid off the books. I wouldn't really begrudge them though.

Then they need to apply for citizenship...
That's what I'm saying the path to citizenship is too hard, and I find it stupid for it to be that hard when the guy has an employeer. IF he has an employeer, he's not dead weight, and a path should be easy. Turning away hard working people isn't smart.
By making the path that hard, you're just encouraging for people to come here illegally as opposed to legally. It's almost like Prohibition, I personally think it's that flawed a concept.

Quote: How long does an American have to wait to get into Canada? Mexico? Britain? Germany?
It takes about 6 months to a year...
My cousin married a Canadian girl. That's how long it took b4 he could legally work in Canada...
If the guy would have obeyed the law, he would not be in this mess...
He chose to break the law, and he got busted...
Quote: 11 years.
Of his life.
Just taken away.
He broke the law... If he would have filed for citizenship, it would certainly have not taken 11 years...
No one is really saying he didn't break the law. We're just saying the Immigration policy of this country is kind of stupid. Just like Prohibition was stupid, our current laws are stupid. Even with sponsorship it could take years to get someone into this country. And I don't know why his money his being detained, on what grounds, if he didn't pay taxes make him pay. That's his money not the governments'.
