Would someone care to explain the finer points of this to me? Yes i know some consider it lame but im not asking for opinions, simply mechanics.

Yes it's lame..and I know you don't want my opinion...but what is really lame is someone not being able to figure out to to do it

Basically you take all the ore out of a macro-miner's jetcan, and quickly replace it with one of your own. Macro-miner puts some ore into the can, flagging him to you. Pew-pew away.
And if all else fails just take the ore. ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars. |

all can flippers refer to the miner as a 'macrominer', it helps them fool themselves into thinking they're a bit less lame.
once the mechanics have been established, its summed up very much like this:
Can flipper = bottom feeder bottom feeder = wannabe PvP'r whos too scared to step out from under concords skirt.

You see the can. Then you raise your hand to the can. Put your middle finger into the upright position while bending your other fingers. Congratulations, you just flipped off a can.

Miners often mine in groups. One or more miners will mine and have a hauler haul the ore from their mining spot to a nearby station. Since it is cheaper and logisticaly easyer to jetison some material from a corps cargo bay which create a very large cargo container rather than dump a secure cargo container in space people use this option.
A jettisoned container in space can be accessed by anyone. A pirate will remove some items from the container or add some himself and then remove them. At this point he will flash red to the corporation that owns the jettisoned can. The pirate still cant attack he will need the corp to attack him first. If the target corp members have drones they will attack him. At this point the pirate is now free to attack the target corporation. If they dont have drones then the pirate will have to tempt the targets to attack him when he is flashing red. Once this has happened then he can attack the targets.

Basically, what's the point in offering advice to someone if you have no idea what you are talking about?

What is the point of just railing on someone without providing anything useful yourself?
Adding to a can and then subtracting from a can, as well as swapping their items into a named can of your accomplishes similar goals...

Cant put something into another persons can unless you're in same corp or in gang and either way he wont get flagged then

Can Flipping
1. Learn to use the directional scanner. Go to the planet with the most belts and open your directional scanner. Set scan range to maximum and your angle to 5 degrees, the lowest setting. Also uncheck the 'Use Overview Settings' box, or whatever it says. Now zoom way out until your ship is teenie tiny and click on it so that the white box appears. Move the camera around so that the box is aligned with the area you want to scan, which should be the little triangles indicating the asteroid belt. Get the triangle inside the box, it might be a bit jumpy, but get it as close as you can. Hit scan and everything scannable in the belt should pop up. Secure cans will not show, but jet cans will, and that is what you are looking for.
2. Next, you are ready for the flip. A bookmark or single piece of ammo works well. Stroll up to the jetcan you want to flip and open it. Next, jettison your ammo or BM to make a can of your own. Now select everything in your targets can (right click and choose 'select all') and drag it into your own, no need for any cargo space at all. You can also leave a unit in the targets can to avoid popping it such as with macro miners so they can continue to fill it for you.

1. approach someone elses can 2. grab some stuff from it then jettison to create your own can 3. move all the stuff from their can to yours
Now, to all the people above going on about farmers and macros and poor english....
I find it much more fun to flip the cans of real players, as they are often alot more fun.

I would not think the same. I have gotten quite a bit of low sec PvP in lately, and while fun, I have yet to turn a profit off it. Way I see it, to make a profit, I would either need to gate camp with buddies, or try to can flip in high sec. So I am thinking of flipping cans. As for being a wannabe PvP'r, nah. I can PvP fine in low sec atm. I have fun. But I can't really PIRATE in low sec atm unless I camp in a gang. And that cuts profits. My definition of a pirate? One who PvPs and can make a profit.
*EDIT* And my kill:loss ratio is positive. I dish out more damage than I take ISK wise, but I still lose money in the grand scheme of things. ------ "Arguing over the internet is like running in the Special Olympics. Even if you win you're still ********." |

Each to their own I suppose.
Can flipping can be fun but it takes awhile to bait a target normally, especially of you have a reputation for it. At least in low sec if you are lucky enough to find targets in a belt there is no waiting around you can just get straight in there and start shooting.
Thanks to the guys I met in Atlar 1st belt, the other night for the 3 way AF fight. I forget your names, but it was most fun I've had in ages.
Can flipping is like a game of chess whilst low sec belt hunting is like a game of draughts IMHO. Lavraen |

How do they destroy the flipped stuff so fast? Thats one thing I was never sure on. I figure they shoot the can, but the last time it was done to me, it was done by a probe and over in seconds. I thought cans were tougher than that.
Course, this was a looong time ago. Like, maybe August last year or something?

well Can flipping can be worth the profit.
Average loot taken by myself is probably 2 mill a kill but its dependant on what you fight.
I have killed a lot more than i have lost.
I have killed a battleship that was can mining in Pator.

Feel free to take a look at my link for the kill board.
