Not sure how many SP I had...probably 20-25 mill. But I did have HAC lvl5 :) I still miss my Cerb, but sold it before the nighthawk came as i thought the prices would fall. At the moment it seems that the prices are stabile again so I might get a new one. Although i loved it I'm not sure I wanna exhange it with the nighthawk :)

After getting a summer of play in I decided I'd wait on Hac's and not get them at around 12mil SPs. Going to cross train caldari shield/missles and get into a blackbird. Reason for this is I don't have the funds or pvp xp to use a Vaga without getting embarassed in the thing.

I think my first HAC was at about 20M SP? My first Command Ship will probably be at 40M SP though

Pretty much the same as me. Actually I did have amarr cruiser 5 and hac 1 since something like 10mil sp mainly because I needed a break back then and amarr cruiser 5 was my longest training skill ;) but I didn't actually fly hac until 20mil+ sp when I felt I was really ready for it. Also I currently have skills planned till close to 40 mil sp and no cs skills there |

Total sp means nothing for the most part when it comes to how qualified you are to fly a ship. For a HAC the main thing is that all your equip is tech II, gun/missile/tank/cap skills are all 4-5. This is probably doable by about 8-10M sp if you train for nothing but skills that will be used for your hac, but since many people train BS/industry/trade/etc, it is more around 15M+.
But tech II equip is the big key, whats the point of a tech II ship if you don't fit it with tech II guns and stuff.

To the op, THANK YOU, You just made me realize that I REALLY DONT want to fly a maelstrom :] I'm flying a halfway T2 fitted hurricane atm, doing exactl ywhat your doing, ratting and pvp and missions. Atm, I am training cap skills to be able to fly a vagabond, Stabber is SO much BIGGER than a thorax , I wouldn't train for large battleship modules if you arent planning to fly them though. I would go with sticking in your harblinger and training support skills for the hac you want to fly whilst pimping out the harblinger to your liking.

I have a friend who decided to not to go with the flow... He has a non T2 fitted astarte... Instead, its faction [shadow serpintas] fitted... Faction stuff just sounds cooler than [insert named item here] T2

I can fly fully t2 fit gallente hacs at 13million sps, and that's with some thrown in indy, some in science some in this and that...
As for bypassing BS skills I know ppl in eve who have 40 million sp+ who don't have bs lvl 1 on their char.

Well if you can afford a faction fitted hac you most likely have the skills to fly a fully fitted tech II ship, the discussion here is how much sp you should have before you start flying around in a hac, not whats the most uber setup.
Im pretty sure most everyone understands that faction is better than T2. But if you only have gun/support skills at 3, faction equipment will only make you a more profitable kill.

Close to 30m SP, and only recently finished Gallente Cruiser 5, and working towards an Ishtar! Just have to finish off Assault Ships 4 and Weapon Upgrades 5. I already have alot of support skills done, as well as good drone skills... I hope!
Now, where did I put my Vexor BPC's for Invention
