Just curious really
Eve allows 3 characters per account, but only allows you to train on one character at a time. Can someone tell me why? Doesn't really make sense to me, given that each character is a seperate individual.

Second!
(it's because any game only allows you to train one character at the time, unless you pay for multiple accounts. Why should EVE be different?) =AFK=

Basically, alt characters are useful even without training. They can be used to check market prices in different systems, or take a day or two and get a hauler and move stuff for your pirate main.
They can't train at the same time because if they could then people would simply "farm" characters, playing one and training up two others for sale.
If you desperately need to train two characters at once you need to pay for that advantage by having a second account.

As far as I know my EVE history, the original plan was to have just one character per account. This wasn't too well received so they changed it to three but allow only one to train.

To elaborate: compare this with wow where you can play with only one char at the time. EVE has the advantage you can "level" (/me soaps out his mouth for using the l-word) your char without being logged in. --- Free exotic dancers for mods that mod my sig

In all honesty, you can level dozens of chars to 70 in WoW in the time it takes you to get all the skills to 4/5 for one ship in EVE.
But coming from SWG, which originally also limited you to one char (per server though) I understand the reason behind it. To have an active and viable player market and production you need a large section of the population to be consumers. The easiest way to achieve that is allowing only one character per account to actively train.
Another way would be to make resource gathering and production so complex it only appeals to a small section of the players. But that's a narrow path to walk.
