MarketW***e > quite often yes MarketW***e > But you're a little smarter than most it seems FreeMarket > What is the largest amount you have gotten FreeMarket > ? MarketW***e > Not too much at once - 180mil or so MarketW***e > But it had ups quickly MarketW***e > Bought myself an absolution with rigs and fittings plus a TS webber yesterday with the proceeds FreeMarket > What is the largest corp that gave you isk? MarketW***e > That information is classfied my friend MarketW***e > I know you want to try it MarketW***e > But let me warn you MarketW***e > Take it easy or you will ruin it for us all MarketW***e > Only try it once or twice a week FreeMarket > Ha, I am just wondering. FreeMarket > What is your average take? MarketW***e > 57mil MarketW***e > Always ask for the ISK for the command ship skillbook FreeMarket > Why? MarketW***e > And if you're lucky, you can pull out more MarketW***e > Because it costs 57mil FreeMarket > Ha, MarketW***e > which is a reasonable amount FreeMarket > It is FreeMarket > Anyway well know people or corps fall for this? FreeMarket > Or is it the small ones. MarketW***e > just watch the recruitment channel and find out the names of people's CEOs MarketW***e > Check if the CEO is onnline or not MarketW***e > If he isn't, give it a shot MarketW***e > Use an alt, tho of course FreeMarket > How long have you been doing this? MarketW***e > Only about a month or so MarketW***e > And in very short bursts MarketW***e > Dont wear it out, or someone will post on the forums or something and ruin it FreeMarket > Have you done other things like this in the past? MarketW***e > Like scams? FreeMarket > Other kinds, yes. MarketW***e > not really FreeMarket > So this is the first that you came up with? Had this happened to you? MarketW***e > No - just realized how many stupid ****s woulld fall for it, so I did it FreeMarket > Ha FreeMarket > Have you ever had anyone challenge on who you were and then convinced them? Actually I like the fact that Eve is a bit like the real world in the fact that you have to have a bit of street smarts so not to be taken advantage of. It helps to make common sense a bit more common.

I have been hit up with this scam. Anyone that has corp wallet and falls for this should lose it quickly :)
Opinions reflected on my posts are just that, my opinions. They do not reflect views held by my corp or alliance. |

Since scamming is allowed, it would be rather big contradiction if you are not allowed to try and pose as a CEO's alt.

Taken from this page. Should be interesting to see a GMs ruling on this, and the penalty for doing so (scamming that is, not petitioning it). Any Devs/GMs care to respond?

I think it's a case of other scams being possible in the RP form of things.
My opinions represent the opinions of my corporation completely. I'm the CEO damnit. |

As I understand it, it means you wouldn't be allowed to create a character with a very similar name to Character A in an attempt to convince Character B you are Character A. Creating an alt with a unique name and pretending to be the alt of Character A should be fine. ---------------------------

This is my understanding also.
I'm not entirely sure how anyone can fall for this scam though, since he actually has to ask the would-be victim whether he has wallet access. Seems like a dead give-away to me. ------------

Edited by: Chribba on 09/10/2007 13:44:16 I have yet to see someone trying to pull this one off on me
Edit: And character impersonation is an EULA breach and can be punished with warnings and/or the stick. As well afaik it is like posted above, the character in question needs to impersonate in such a way that it is similar to the original player in terms of name, avatar, info etc - at least that I what I understood from the events after the mom scam using 'Chribbah' which has just about identical information and avatar as I have.

Dear Sir/Madam Chribba!
I am Mr. Mitsuni Abashadoni, representing The Veldspar Association GalaxyWide Bank. I have the courage to Crave indulgence for this important business believing that you will never let me down either now or in the future. Some years ago, an Amarrian Mining consultant/ contractor with the Amarr National Veldspar Corporation made a Deposit of 50 BILLION (50.000.000.000) units of Veldspar (VELDSPAR ORE!) in our storage rooms.
On maturity, The bank sent a routine notification to his forwarding address but got no reply. After a month, The bank sent another reminder and finally his contract employers, the Amarrian National Veldspar Corporation wrote to inform the bank that he died without MAKING A WILL, and all attempts by the Amarrian Embassy to trace his next of kin was fruitless. I therefore, made further investigation and discovered that the beneficiary was an immigrant from the Matar and only recently obtained Amarrian citizenship. He did not declare any kin or relations in all his official documents, including his Bank deposit paper work.
No one will ever come forward to claim it, and according to The Veldspar Association policy, after some years, the money will revert to the ownership of the Minmatar Republic Government if the account owner is certified dead. This is the situation, and my proposal is that I am looking for a foreigner who will stand in as the next of kin to beneficiary, and who are well known for mining Veldspar in Amarr to facilitate the transfer of this money. This is simple, all you have to do is to transfer 100 million isk to my account, and I will make sure to do my utmost to get you the VELDSPAR! There is no risk AT ALL, and NO LAWS will be VIOLATED. I propose that we split the VELDSPAR 50/50 if I can get my hands on them.
Please observe the utmost confidentiality, and be rest assured that this transaction would be most profitable for both of us because I shall require your assistance to invest my share in your company. I look forward to your earliest reply.

This actually seems like an honest scam, so I dont really have a problem with it. The ones that steam my clams are those that basically take advantage of bad or laggy game features to do their thing. _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

The funny part is, the 419 scam *does* exist in EVE. It goes indeed along the lines of "I scammed <major not very popular alliance> out of X billion ISK and am now giving it away. I will give any player who donates at least 50m ISK to me 10 times what they donated me." followed by a few "<accomplice or person not in the system and unaware>: money sent!" or similar.
