What is up with the ME datacore prices? 2.7m each? that is over double of a month ago, and there is not much supply. Tell me this price is going down?

Is the glut of RP/datacores caused by the end of the lottery finally drying up?

There was never a "glut" of MechEng RPs to begin with, everybody stocked up on starship engineering RPs (x3 field multiplier) or any other number of higher-than-1 field multiplier research fields. No, price isn't going down, it will keep going up until after Rev3 release, THEN go down slowly. I'd suggest you watch the "market" subforum for pricing issues/details/reasons. _

Some people are hoarding their datacores instead of selling them, thus artifically shortening supply and creating a steep price climb.
People do this for two reasons: -So they have enough datacores to invent t2 battleships when Rev3 hits, or -So they can make sick profits from selling to people who invent t2 battleships when Rev3 hits

Akita & Ishina pretty much summed it up. Mech. Eng. Datacores are needed for most invention jobs worth doing. Supply is limited by the lowish number of good quality ME agents.

No the price will climb a lot higher before it goes down. I expect it to double again. The trend upwards may stall this w/e as part-time researchers try to take some profit, but you can expect it to continue to rise as more inventors notice and start stockpiling for the new Rev. 3 ships.

Sitaleere Bene, L4Q16, Duvolle Laboratories, 115.02 RP/day Aldibet Sotisarin, L4Q16, Boundless Creation, 115.02 RP/day Bummiri Nadaneh, L4Q16, Carthum Conglomerate, 115.02 RP/day Kasukell Bjaren, L4Q13, Core Complexion, 112.59 RP/day Heidirdria Bord, L4Q9, Boundless Creation, 109.35 RP/day Jalshinden Sharemi, L4Q0, Carthum Conglomerate, 102.06 RP/day
That's 6 high quality level 4 agents - the maximum any one character can research with until something along the lines of 'Advanced Research Project Management' gets introduced. For a total of 669.06 RP (1338.12 with missions) or 13.38 (26.76) datacores per day.
Yes, that includes lowsec. Yes that's alot of traveling. Yes that is alot standing to get right (lets be honest, everyone and his dog nowadays runs a mechanical engineering alt). But are you serious about commiting to research or just lazy and want isk for free?
Stop that "there are no mechanical agents NOEESS!!1cos(0)!" nonsense. Seriously. -- [17:47] <Mephysto> its dead, jim |

Ok, 13+/26+ datacores per day per fully skilled, insanely-standings-ground research alt (3 separate corps in 3 separate empires). 13+ per day with occasional collection, 26+ per day with daily repeat grind of completing each mission. Let's settle for a "round" number, of 15 cores/day with moderate effort.
Now, on the other hand, a single inventor will be able to "eat up" 32x11=352 Mech.Eng. datacores every couple of days (less than that with POS labs). So, let's say a nice rounded waaaay down to 150 per day, used up potentially.
You need on average TEN (10) fully specced "MechEng harvesting machines" to feed one single (1) inventor, and not even at full invention power post Rev3. See where this is going ? _

Actually, thats 4 different corps in 3 empires :P
And I sure know, my 530 rp/day (Connections 3, Negotiation 4, Mech Eng 5, RPM 4) aren't enough to feed my needs. -- [17:47] <Mephysto> its dead, jim |

To actually answer your question...
With the new T2 ships coming into the game and with them only being made through invention (ie: there will be NO bpos), people are either A) mass buying datacores in anticpation in getting ships out quickly when they hit to take advantage of the initial high prices (aka high profit margins) B) Hording datacores cause they think the price is going to go up even more when the ships do hit TQ
I'm busy running missions now so I can horde datacores for purpose A)

Yes! I can see my main character is going to continue to pull in the ISK. Before I read Akita's reasoning, I assumed that supply would eventually catch up with demand. Now, I'm not so sure. Here's hoping CCP doesn't do something.

Actually anything that uses Mechanical Engineering Datacores is barely worth inventing at this point if at all. It's true that all ship jobs need them but there's plenty of very profitable modules that don't use mechanical engineering.

It takes on average 123 ME cores to invent one 5-run T2 BS BPC with all skills maxed. Hint: Start stockpiling the +30% success chance +4 run decryptors, everyone is going to want these as the base invention job using only datacores only gives you a 1-run BPC.

Is 123 ME core average based on projecting from experience inventing currently available t2 ships or is that data generated from messing around on the test server?
