Will Trinity require Vista? Or will it run also with XP and Linux?
I ask because whenever I have to use Vista I hate it more and more and more. I think I'll sooner quit Eve than using Vista. Wait. I'll sooner quit computing than using Vista (unless it gets worked over a very big time). Ok.

It will not require Vista, but I don't understand why you don't like it. --- Proud Amarr pilot.

Will I be able to run my main using the enhanced graphics and my alt using the basic graphics on the same machine at the same time in order to save on power for the main client.

For those that don't have cards that support SM3, have there been enhancements to the "old" graphics engine to make more use of the vid card and be less of a strain on the CPU? Don't get me wrong, the new "content" (ships and whatnot) is awesome. But I've been looking for a smoother, more streamlined client since you guys announced the plan for a new engine +/- 2 years ago. I agree with a previous poster that this blog is extremely uninformative. The short version of the entire Blog could be this, "This is how we're releasing the patch. yadda yadda yadda. OH! BTW! 48% of you can't use the new graphics engine we've been talking up for the past 2 years. Good luck!"
This bothers me greatly. I hope so very much that the lack of information in this blog includes all the tweaks to the "old" client that 48% of us are still gonna be forced to use. Please tell me I haven't been waiting all this time for nothing. (once again. not talking about the new content.)
-Zoltar
Oh well, thats 48% generaly, but how many of those 48% people with GFX not supporting SM3 (SM3 support started 3years ago) are actualy playing MMOs or newest games ?
All clients use new engine, just only SM3 compliant gfx can use high resolution models and textures. I am sure that premium version could be made work on SM2, but why if it make huge performance penalty as SM2 can deal with 6 time less shader instructions per cycle compared to SM3. I believe those unlucky people not having SM3 GFX will prefer playable performance instead of highest details and textures.

Vista is only required for DX10 and its SM4+ (opengl with SM4 do not require vista tho only MS crapy DX bind to OS to force sales)

I can't seem to find anywhere else to post this. There doesn't seem to be a relevant topic for it. I was wondering what we should see when we try to download the new trinity engine for the singularity server. I know it says it will run in the background quietly, but it'd be nice if we had some idea of how it's getting along. when I press the link to start downloading the new engine I get no kind of conformation that it's started. Is there a separate process that will run, or will it be part of the ExeFile.exe? Basically HOW DO WE KNOW IF IT'S WORKING!?!?!

It works allright: It doesn't download it. Have you read or seen any big advertisement/notices/posts about the new graphics content being available? No? Why do you think that YOU personally CAN download and see it? Just wait like everybody else till its available ;-)

One small question: When will Trinity be available? Will it be an automatic upgrade/patch?
Thanks

the engine on Singularity is the new Trinity Engine, but only this one that is made for the guys that can't run EVE on the new Trinity Engine with Directx 9.0 and above, because of their hardware!
so the link in login screen is only there, where u can find it until the real trinity engine with the content update for dx 9 and above will be released. it is only a "placeholder" :)
be patient... i think it will be biggest christmas present for all EVEguys

This in on the edge of being ridiculous. My ATI X700 was released barely two years ago, and unfortunately, it's stuck in a laptop I bought a few months ago!
My system can perfectly handle high poly counts, high-res textures and other shiny graphics; I know that because I've played games that look amazing, and I'm sure EVE's new graphics content would also be great without the 200+ shader instructions.
I'm not familiar with shading because I'm not a Direct3D programmer (neither 3D in general), but couldn't you just scale down these "instructions" to the "basic" and most important ones (I know I'm vague) for people with SM2 cards and still provide the new models & textures? Someone mentioned a "button to turn them [the shaders] off"...
Everything that can't be added from there, is a limit set by your system, i.e. the missing shader capabilites of your video card. But excluding many players like that means setting an artificial border which doesn't exist in this radical way. I guess the current (Classic) version of the engine only uses a fraction of the shader capabilities supplied by Shader Model 2, so why should we stick to this when we can have an improvement within SM2?
I'be been looking forward to the graphics update. Huge disappointment for me...

I had heard there was a 3x increase to the size of Motherships, is this true or false? because atm they are simply too small. The test server apparently shows them the same size as on Tranquility.

I have a question, and I cant seem to find if it has already been addressed. I'm assuming the graphic update for Trinity will be provided for the Mac and Linux clients as well, correct?

ok i have a realy wierd problem. I have NVIDIA GeForce 7950GT 512MB, i have new drivers and windows is updated. SM3checker says "Your Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 7950GT Does not support Shader Model 3.0" I dont understand what's the problem. I think i have somekind of software bug somewhere but i dont know even where to look.
Any suggestions?
