1) To fly freighters takes at least 45 days of training. 2) Freighters cost around 1B ISK. 3) Freighters move slower than soil creep.
Most bothersome is that #3 can NEVER be substantially improved.
It's as if CCP is saying to the community, "We don't want you moving large quantities of goods."

If CCP was going to say that they don't want us transporting large quantities of goods, they probably wouldn't have added a ship with 800K cargo capacity. ---------------- Tarminic - 29 million SP in Forum Warfare Originally by: CCP Wrangler Booooo!!! Tarminic sux!!!

You must be an only child. Because that's the only excuse I can think of for the frequency and annoyance of your whines. And then not even written nicely, or amusingly.

Don't say never :) Put them in a gang they move a bit faster. Activate leadership mods they go faster still. (put in some snake implants and its really racing!) And if you're really desperate you could have it rammed by a nanophoon or something.

OMG why did someone create tankers IRL? I mean, they're slow, they take over two miles to stop, and many more to turn! They cant dock properly without help and they dont have any guns!
See how stupid I sound?
They move stuff. Lots of stuff. At once. Its their job.

Lies, lies and slander ! Some tankers actually do have weapon systems onboard. And the crew is sometimes armed too _

At least they tank better than shuttles which, as I keep hearing, don't tank too well.

In gang / squad there is a webbing trick that shoots the freighter into warp.

And i hear fitting a MWD to them is very dangerous cuz of the volatile nature of their cargo, so thats why tankers don't have any slots either.
Are people now whining that freighters are going too slow? or is this also still a cloaked 'omg nerf freighter suicide ganking!' thread? CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!! Magners is now recruiting, evemail me or Dagazbo ingame.

Tankers are quite often threatened by pirates when passing by the african east-coast, the carribean or the malay archipelago. A friend of mine (well, he used to be a friend, I don't see or hear from him all that often) works as a sailor on a containership going on the Durban/Yokohama route, and they're pretty heavily armed. Although most ships prefer to not use guns (because having guns on board attracts pirates). ______________________________________________ -You can never earn my respect, only lose it. The Lusitania supposedly had guns mounted (and transporting munitions) when it was playing cruise ship across the Atlantic when it was sunk.
America used its sinking as a reason to enter World War I.
Armed freighters would probably start Alliance warfare, well, more Alliance warfare.

That was one reason among many. Also, it wasn't the catalsyst.
Also, this is America, we don't believe in Africa.

I believe that about 15 or so years ago, I went on Pirates of the Carribean in Disneyworld. And it was the worst ride I've been on in my entire life. And now I will never see or do anything involved with that name again, ever.

the real 3 penalties of freighters:
1) unable to fit ANY modules (not even rigs) 2) unable to access wrecks or cargo containers in space (except freighter wrecks/containers) 3) move and warp VERY slowly
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
1. 45 days is nothing for the sick capacity you get 2. 900 mil is nothing, cause if you cannot afford that, you dont have enough stuff to move around 3. freighters are not slow if you compare that it would take you 30 trips with a iteron 5 (long skill) with expensive rigs and T2 cargo expanders to achieve the same goal
If you fill em up with 800 k m3 you suddenly realise that you move a lot, very fast. _________________________________________________ Breetime
There is one answer to the above complaints.
Edited by: James Lyrus on 18/10/2007 21:51:25 A freighter is slow, but having loaded an outpost, one hauler at a time, I can tell you for absolute certain it is by far and away the most efficient way to move large volumes of stuff.
Price tag, also, is irrelevant - as has already been mentioned, even filling it with trit is a noticable fraction of the price tag.
About all they're -really- missing is a way to transport assembled (and thus rigged and insured) ships. That would really rock.
Oh, and I'd be really happy about just enough slot space to fit a civilian gatling gun or something, just so I could get on killmails ;) -- Crane needs more grid 249km locking? GMP and TNP |
