Totally irrelevant, but after reading that CCP opened in Georgia I had to ask...
...why the heck Georgia? As far as I can assume, they're not moving the servers or their current staff...so why Georgia? Cheap land? Savannah College of Art and Design? From what I see going around me in Hawaii, Game designers, animators and some students and staff from the University of Hawaii and Hawaii in general want to make Hawaii an oasis of film, animation and game design. I know I'm one of the students who agreed to return to Hawaii and offer my skills to any major animation/game/film studio that opened up in the islands. The only problem is ever since square's studios packed up and left, no one's really given Hawaii a good looking at.
How cool would that be to prospective employees and partners. Come work for us in Hawaii! (in addition to iceland, which is just as cool a place) All the other major places are stereotypically located in California. *bleh*
Anyway, that's my little blurb. I just really, really want a studio to open up in Hawaii. I'm working towards my double major in Visual Effects/animation and Game design and when I graduate I'm going to have to fly out to California, Vancouver (or maybe Iceland *wink wink*) for work.

If they had any sense they'd have opened the NA studio in Austin, Los Angeles, or Seattle. White Wolf staff could have moved, or they could have left them in place, and setup for a lot of producer travel between the dev studio and fiction studio.
Good luck convinving enough experienced mmo devs to move to the middle of nowhere to get a solid team going...

to be honest, there's some spectacular talent here. Only problem is the state government makes it a bit hard to do business with all the tax and regulatory issues. Just ask the Superferry :/ ========== CELES KB: http://www.celeskills.com

Also, Hawaii is where the crap we don't want goes, and the people who don't have enough talent for even the Midwest.
Also, lots of things are in Georgia. Like an airport hub.

Nah no worry just as long as CCP would open the office on Oahu. The outer island people seem to think that they have some kind of entitlement and will try to kill j00 if you go on their space :P

To be honest, crap doesn't come here. Nothing does. No one goes "I suck, I'm going to Hawaii" They're more likely to crowd and choke up LA with false hopes.
Everyone sees Hawaii only for Tourism, but we've got amazing technological potential. We could be a cultural oasis for intellectuals or technology. We're already the best for astronomy and marine biology, what if Hawaii got visual effects and stole the show from California?

I think they classify as terrorists, using fear and violence to get their way over common sense and progress.

The "South" is heavily populated with hi-tech development. Georgia actually makes since, and I believe that CCPs CONUS office is in Atlanta.
From the Missile Defense Agency in Huntsville Alabama, to the massive super cluster of Linux servers powering Google in the middle of Richmond Virginia... you have Research Triangle Park, (Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill) the home of many AT&T operations, Lucent Technologies research labs, and home of Northern Telecom.
I don't know why, the South is so academically developed, but maybe it has something to do with some of the best schools in the world are in the American South... such as Duke University for Medicine in Durham North Carolina, North Carolina State University being the best place for Agriculture sciences and engineering....
The cost of living is so low in the South, a lot of high-paying individuals love the biggest expense cut (that being Rent or Mortgage Payments), with living and working in the South.
Then you have Southern Hospitality, Southerners are much nicer and friendly than anywhere else in the country. One can easily get away from the asphalt and concrete realities of corporate office work.... and ease in peace of mind sipping lemonade viewing a beautiful country-side.
Oh... and there is no accent for a girl more sexy than a deep Southern accent. I'm talking of river estate, Louisiana and Southern Mississippi accents.

Ggood argument, it does make sense, I just think Hawaii has potential to match that. (not the cost of living though...)
Though, I'll jsut agree to disagree on that last part. =P

Hawaii is 2,390 miles from California, and like 3,850 miles from Japan I think that pretty much limits the state big time. How much do things like milk and gas cost there ?

gas is the big one. Like..$3.389/gal average.
But it's a *fake* shortage/price boost. They're making insane profits in Hawaii because shipping it here costs just as much as shipping it to any part of the US, but they can pretend it does to drive the price up.
also, I'm not supposed to know that... >.>
everything else is pretty normal.

We in Georgia have some of the lowest gas prices. It's been at 2.60 or so for about 6 months now, and has never been above 3.40.

Edited by: blkmajik on 19/10/2007 23:42:19 so, your saying that in the merger talks, ccp should have demanded that all white wolf employees move to some other city for no good reason? You realize they have families, and spouses who probably work in Atlanta and would need to give up their jobs or split up their families? I'm sure that would have went over well. Atlanta is one of the biggest tech cities in the US. Why move it? Especially to Hawaii. Besides, they already have an office somewhere in Asia. Why not put your US HQ, you know... near your US playerbase?

I agree with you Leanee. They should come to Cali instead. Right now in Hollywood it's a beautiful 72 degrees without a cloud in the sky, just like everyday. As long you avoid the chic with the adams apple it's Utopia.
A little advice to any Icelanders coming out to Georgia:

Il go with the white wolf connection. they already had facilities and people and infrastructure (warehouse/shipping space) in their area.
Part of the merger/purchase was to take advantage of all that, not Just buy a lot of people and force them to move while creating all new supply chains. Add the various incentives offered by area government and a reliable international air hub and its a very reasonable.
Not that I would be unhappy if the CCP N.A. office was in downtown North Brunswick (jersey) but one cant have all they want.

you have to drive triple the distance each way. People focus so much on the price per gallon but don't realize how many FEWER GALLONS THEY CONSUME in Hawaii. ========== CELES KB: http://www.celeskills.com

Hell was full up already.
Also, Hawaii is part of the USA but is NOT in North America. Therefore an office in Mexico City or Anchorage Alaska would qualify as a "North America" office, but Hawaii is not in the running.

Edited by: Naervic on 20/10/2007 00:22:17 Well I think one reason might be that Georgia is offering incentives for game developers to come here. The state is ranked #4 in terms of compensation levels for video game developers, and there is even up to a 12% tax break for developers and publishers. As long as they can survive the mosquitoes and sand gnats, thats pretty awesome. =P
