Way back in the day when I played I don't remember missions at level 2 being so... violent! Granted this character is not even a week old but I did the first 5 or so level 2 missions just fine and then I got hit with the Guristas flavored "The Blockade".
Lets just say I have rediscovered my hate (and amazement) at ECM spam.
Too many waves spawned while I was pretty much perma jammed the entire time. I eventually had someone in a Drake come and tank for me.
Is this normal? I keep reading accounts of everyone breezing their way through every level 2 in a caracal.
Is it an SP issue? I'm not so sure it's a fitting issue when you have 25+ frigates shooting at your cruiser while you are still jammed.
Hints? Thoughts? Was I perhaps too hasty to jump into a cruiser for level 2s a few days out the box?
I was seriously thinking of going back to 1s as I can finish them incredibly fast and have the high quality ones open to me.
That damn blockade mission took me over an hour, with help (the guy accidentally brought 7 heavy launchers instead of assault so I was basically doing the damage).
Any comments would be appreciated. Even the "lewl noob" ones I suppose, if they have some advice in them.
Thanks,
Gav

Edited by: Gralg Merglen on 20/10/2007 03:07:06 Look for the ships with a slightly different name from the rest, these trigger the next spawn. i forget the L2 flavour but in the lvl 3 there's pithatis assaults with one executor or something. also if you can use any sort of drones throw them at the dire ones and forget about them until the next spawn then bring them back etc FoF are ok but they don't concentrate fire, so just fit a huge tank and hope for a break in the jamming.

I can also confirm that the guristas pirates have a titan. We tried to kill it but unfortunately it mwded away at 5k/second and smacked us in local.

Keep your range, too. It's pretty easy in a caracal to keep range from most things, and the frigs that you can't you should be able to take out in 1-2 shots.

i got stuck on this one.
i just can't do lvl 2 mission to save myself. do you need to orbit ships to avoid getting hit? or keep at range?
i've been advised to fit 5 heavy launchers. i don't know itf they'll all fit and small frigates will laugh at them tho

mhm many ppl suggest heavy launchers, others tell me to use assault launchers with light missiles.
the light missiles just dont do enough damage. it takes like 20 to take down a destroyer. Anger is a Gift |

Do you swap missiles to match the rats you are shooting at? I never had any problems with lvl 2 mission rats. The elite frigates take a while to whittle down, but that's normal. I'd still say stick with std missiles and assault launchers on lvl 2's if you are using a Caracal.
Edit: bring 2 Hobogoblin I to help against those elite frigates

How does a Bellicose sound for L2 missions? I just tried my first L2 yesterday and got Recon, by the time I realized I was supposed to go straight for the gate it was too late. I ended up canceling and going back to L1's after almost losing the Belli and losing a slasher and shuttle after going back to try it in those. Just wondering now if I should go back and give another one a shot or wait a bit until I can pull out a fourth drone and maybe raise a few more combat skills, any feedback's appreciated.

Well to try and answer your question.. I'm a Caldari pirate and recently have been "farming" lvl 2s for the standing. I've been doing them in a Caracal with the worst fitting ever. 5 T1 heavies ( no name , plane T1 ) one SB one AB 2 cap rechargers and 2 PDU I in low. Hope i didn't get this fitting wrong as i don't remember it exactly because i didn't really care about it. Tbh i'm only using kinetic heavies as i have cruiser lvl 5. Maybe once in...20 missions i have to warp out as not to get pew pew-ed by the rats. My advice get a nice AB and OUTRUN them ( if needed) . Also try getting better launchers as to get the missions done faster.
Just so you know i do have alot of skills in missiles and everything else needed for the mods. If you're new...your experience may differ.
To conclude.. Lvl 2s doable in caracal. Will take less or longer depending on fitting.

Have you tried heavy missiles on those frigates? Due to things like an oversized blast radius, they can actually do less damage than light missiles. Even if they do slightly more damage, an assault missile launcher can launch the missiles at a higher rate. It can take 1.5 times the number of missiles, but you're launching them twice as fast and they cost half as much.
When you start fighting cruisers on a regular basis in the missions, then fit heavy launchers. ------------------- 4 8 15 16 23 42 108 |

Edited by: Egwain Al''Vere on 26/10/2007 11:19:37 Edited by: Egwain Al''Vere on 26/10/2007 11:18:45 I posted this setup in the L2 Caracal thread as well, but it might do ya some good here. . . This setup has been breezing all the L2's I've gotten so far, and I'm 5 days into my trial account, so anyone should be able to make this set-up.
Highs: 3x Compact Limos Assault Launchers (Bloodclaw) 2x Advanced Limos Heavy Launchers (Scourge) Mids: 1x Medium Shield Booster II 1x Y-S8 Hyrdocarbon I Afterburners 2x Large Shield Extender 1x Heat Dissipation Amplifier (swap depending on nme) Lows: 1x Power Diagnostic System I 1x Reactor Control Unit I
It took a bit of finesse to get a decent set-up that would fit. And it's tight. . .I'm currently sitting at 400.7 of 402.5 CPU 683.9 of 703.97 Powergrid
As a note, I haven't gotten the L2 Blockade mission yet, I don't know the class make-up of the enemies. If there aren't really any cruisers I'd says just dump the two Heavies and run 5 assault.
Right before DT, a few minutes ago, I soloed the 3/10 complex near Amarr space with this setup. It took a long time, and once or twice it got hairy, but I didn't need to warp, and they never broke my shield tank. Only changes were taking out the AB and running two passive EMP shield amplifiers. Oh and was using thermal missiles ; )
So anyway, I hope maybe this helps. Good luck!
