Hi,
As you probably know http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&nbid=3386 - there will be CSM vote soon. Last time plp from EVE that play(ed) linux wanted to vote all for 1 player that will represent linux players in CSM (but it was started to late and plp was not informed properly here). Any1 would like to try that again?

May i ask u why would we linux players need our own CSM? I mean there's no native client anyways and CCP not planning on porting EVE and it works almost perfect under wine. So once again, Why? |

1. To get attention 2. Be get sure that EVE SIS client will be tested on wine before releasing patches. 3. It would be nice to get assured by CCP that they will work fe. with Wine community to repair wine/eve - 1 person would be enough. 4. EVE Linux client using wine it is not so hard to do relay - Crossover s focused on MAC that's why they had problems with EVE Linux client and that's why EVE dropped support (because of Linux client errors we played on Wine so was reported as we where Win users). 5. The most important is to make CCP understand how many users play on Linux (it is relay easy to count - you can detect with on IF if EVE is runner on native windows or on wine) - maybe they will think twice - fe. look at the posts count on forums MAC/LIN we are at least 40% of MAC community (but we need to conf wine and has no real support) - so maybe doing good Linux client is not loosing money - because of differences of MAC and LIN community it just needs to be developed some other way that MAC client.
Any1 can add something? |

Won't happen simply cuz it might work ok under windows but wine will break things. It's possible since wine in constantly under development. Only thing CCP could do - post latest wine version reported to work with latest game version. But that's what this forum section and wine appdb is for.

See 2.

Umm ok once again. Mac version is same old windows version with crossover wrapper. Same as linux version was just a windows version with crossover wrapper. CCP doen't seem to plan any sort of porting done from DirectX graphics libraries and w/o it any native client is impossible. Correct if i'm wrong.

And that will give u what exactly. Don't get me wrong i'm all for game developers to recognize us linux players but i just don't see any reasons for CCP to make any moves towards us.
Ah and CCP will lose money on native client development cuz linux users already pay and i really doubt linux client will bring much more players to even consider to rewrite game graphics engine.
That's all my opinion ofc. |

to get some bug fix attention. currently if you try to report an issue on Linux, you will be dismissed at the start because of an unsupported OS. however since the bug reporting system is not public, you cannot check if your problem is linux specific or if also windows people suffer from it.
that's just an example.
currently we don't need a native client as wine works great (native would be superb but not a must have). however some consideration towards linux users would be good during development. |

I did succeed once to get an answer via petition and not bug report. But the answer was not helpfull :-( |

Really it would be nice if they at least tested new eve clients with wine, and filed bugs with the wine project. Say one As little as one computer running Ubuntu with the the current version of wine. Also updating the wiki for wine as the current wiki doesn't really result in a working installation. |

+1 vote.
In fact we could team up with mac users for a combined cross-platform approach. My experience from other games tells me that if something from windows is successfully ported onto mac it works in wine without problems. |

CCP really switched to crossover for the MAC version?
It was Transgaming if I remember correctly. Having crossover instead of transgaming would make a Good Linux client. |

my question is if they ported it to mac why CANT they port it to linux? i may not be a computer expert, but like it was already said, if it works in mac it should work in wine. Mac and linux have a similar UNIX background if im not mistaken, so i dont know. I just dont see why if games are ported to macs, why they cant be ported to linux.
that brings me to another question.... how hard would it be to get a mac client working in linux, considering the aformentioned points?
in any case, i totally agree with this, already liked the main page

it is not ported. it's a Cider wraped windows client. we do the "packaging" ourselves for linux and wine :-) |

Its ok for me with this packing - but we would like to be shure that latest patch won't blow our client away (for me - every 4-5 patches I need tu download full install - good that thay still provide that :). |
