Does anyone here use long range missiles, or as the goverment would consider WMDs? I've noticed that when firing from over, say 100km they don't actually hit, even if the flight time and maximum velocity allows them to hit for beyond 120kms, I know sniping with missiles is considered a bad idea in pvp, but i am talking within missons, (ignoring defenders) I never get hits! Even though i am well within my max range of 130km with cruise missiles, I can't hit further then 90... Is there a reason for this or am i missing something

Nah, Just normal missiles, Either Precision Heavy or standard cruise

I've witnessed the same with torpedoes, when advertised as 105km they would only reach out 95-ish.

One pretty logical explanation would be that your target is moving so the missile doesnt go in a straight line and therefore taking a longer trip.

Something like that is actually understandable. Missiles do not accellerate to their full speed instantly, so their actual max range is a bit less than their real max range.
Also the speed & movement direction of your target will influence its range. If your target is moving away from you with 200 m/s and you have torps with a speed of 2.94 km/s their effective range is actually lowered by around 7%.
Combine these two things and a 10% range difference between expected and result isn't that unlikely.
Having a 30% range reduction with cruises however does not fit there, that is well outside any error margin.

If you notice at how they hit, they accelerate greatly in the last 2s of flight to make up for that launch delay.

I dunno, that looks more like a graphical artefact to me.

i tried this on shooting on cans with torps aswell
i calculated my torps to around 140-150km, and they started hitting on 146km range, tho no damage, i kept firing a new torp each time i flew 1km closer, they didnt doing damage before 126km in :C
but but, i guess the signature radius plays a role here, and the phenomenom also happens for NPC's when speedtanking a few missions..
so the theory is right, but i think there is a explanation

On a jetcan from non moving ship besides the missile range u should get every time max damage!
