To the target I designated?
Your game is over five years old and you still havn't managed to make my ships drones fly to a single target.
Is it just me or it that just completely beyond ******** for a game company?
Blizzard would have a problem that mind bogglingly freaken obvious to put on their fix list on the first patch after WOW came out.
I'm sorry but it's totally ******** that you can't program 5 drones to attack a target without deviating and attacking targets that ARN'T EVEN AGGROED TO ME.

Short attention span. Yup, I hate that aspect of drones too. Try using sentry drones. ---

I just don't remember my pets in WOW, DAOC, ULTIMA ONLINE OR EVERQUEST changing targets onto targets that arn't even aggroed to me.
They didn't change targets once.
I kept closing Eve to go read stuff while they flew to my target.
I had to send them back to the target I wanted over 5 times.
The targets they kept my drones kept attacking WEREN'T even AGGROED TO ME OR THE DRONES.
I mean that is totally r e t a r d e d.
Only one game in all the games I'v played since the Spectrum ZX48k, ie 10six AKA Project Visitor had as buggy pet control as Eve Online.

That dev blog specifically says they're taking away the Drone's "Free will" with the next patch. So it looks like this is being taken care of

I just remember wanting to play Eve Online like when Everquest and Ultima Online were still huge and sometimes I just sit back am amazed how slow Eve's Development has been compared to those games.

It's the first step before they become rogue! You should keep an eye on them at all times!
Anyway, it only seems to happen if their target is quite far from you.
Now if besides that, they'd stop getting stuck on each other while otw somewhere.... |

It's such a strange bug this one. My drones used to do it all the time but now they're fine, they do what they're told, all the time.
I've even seen them flying towards a distant target, as instructed, and while I've been watching they've "gone rogue" for a second - gone to Status Idle, then all started moving towards a different target, then all re-acquire the original target and proceed as originally asked!
My brother however, has what we affectionately call "spazdrones". They're a liability. Random targets! Aha let's agro that entire new group of rats over there! Now let's just go idle and sit in space like dead fish!
Very odd.

p.s.(I have never had a problem with them, but I guess I'm just lucky)
also slow? I don't think I've ever played a game that changes as fast as this one. I meant they have tried to fix the drone thing many times, but it allways breaks again, so the new drone system is now in place. ----------------------------------- I'm working my way through college target CCP need...more room... |

@OP
hmmm... only thing that actually comes into my mind is L2USE DRONES?
i'll elaborate:
i've done some tests with medium T2 drones, against a corp mate in a poor's man vaga (aka: fleet stabber) with nearly maxed speed skills and modules. whenever he managed to outrun my drones (not by going out of range, just by flying too fast for them to follow) they went idle. however if he attacked me and was in range, they would automaticly go for him.
now, afaik, large drones (i can use em but never do because i hate their speed) are even slower than mediums...
my guess is that you send em to a target that's too far or too fast or both, they lose track and go for whatever target hitted you after that.
apart from that, when i send to attack drones or give em any other command, i spam the command at least 2-3 times.
biggest problem with drones i've found so far is when you call em back, and they stay at 2200m from you not docking to your bay. that sucks big time, but i found a solution for that too: you right click on the drone in your drone overview and select APPROACH. before your ship even turns around or anything (at least with my slowass BS) the drone manages to dock and i resume my previous route.

I had a weird one today.
5 Ogres on their way to attack a BS (32km away, targetted by me and shooting at me) just spontaneously decided to come back past me and head for another rat group 74km away (not targetted, not shooting at me, or them).
There's just no way to rationalise that as any kind of desired/programmed behaviour. Can't wait for the fix...

After the first three times, you really should have started paying attention to what your drones were doing...
But yes, highly annoying though. However drone behavior is getting revamped with Revelations 3 so it shouldn't be an issue after that. ---------------- Tarminic - 29 million SP in Forum Warfare Originally by: CCP Wrangler Booooo!!! Tarminic sux!!!

Yeah it's great! Now you don't only have to select the drone command from a crappy little drop down menu - they now added 5 sub-menus so you have to go
right click -> "drones" -> "yeah really drones" -> "what be GUI?" -> "drones again" -> "attack"
...and then you get 3 pop-ups asking if you are really really really sure you'd like your drones to attack whatever target they like the color of. The new key features include automatically deleting any open reimbursement-petitions that the account currently has. That really made the difference.
No but seriously... I tend to agree that this feature is one of the worst implemented features in any game I've played so far... I think pong had way better AI... I mean at least the little ball always flew where it was supposed to and didn't just start doing wtf it wanted.
But I guess it's only been 4,5 years and that clearly isn't enough to fix such a meaningless bug. I mean I'm sure if Blasters sometimes just switched targets once in a while there also wouldn't be any whines. That just makes the game even better...
Sry for the rant... I really like EVE and generally also find CCP a good company but sometimes I do wonder what their QA Department is doing (if they even have such a thing ...)
FIX DRONES IN REV3 or publicly burn the Dev that implemented drone control at the Fanfest. I'll bring the wood.

Hm, i still have the ' stuck drones' bug, u know where they warp back to ur ship and eiter get stuck on each other or just stuck on a piece of nothingness, and u have to either stop ur ship completely, fly back to them or order another attack command.
never had my drones switch target enroute though, but having said that i only use light drones for the most part so mebbe there coded differently somehow? CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!! Magners is now recruiting, evemail me or Dagazbo ingame.

I also never had this problem except with Heavy Drones and usually only if they have to fly a longer distance. I think thats why you never have seen this problem before.
I noticed this when I fitted 2 Drone Speed mods on my Ishtar... suddenly my Heavy Drones seemed all responsive and also only rarely attacked the wrong target (though it still happened just much less often).
Edit: But the bug you were describing with the Drone "sticking" on 1,6km from the ship is also well known. I have this at least once every hour when I go ratting. |

Well I guess you can't know that but tbqfh I don't give a **** if my drones are getting a new paint job from the NPC. If I say attack my target then I want my damn Drones to do just that.. no matter what!
So it's beside the point if the Drones had aggro - as long as my target is alive and the order has been given my Drones should be attacking that target and nothing else. |

I'd reccomend fitting a drone nav computer or two. The reason that heavy drones change targets is because they have an idle timer - and they're programmed to consider time flying to a target as idle time. Once that idle timer expires, they choose a random target. Have you noticed that this only happens when you assign your drones to a target a long way off?
Drone nav computers will make your drones fly faster. This means they have a better chance of reaching the target before their idle timer expires. It also has the added bonus of making your mission pass more quickly. --------------------------------------------------------------------

And the added malus tha once they reach the target they orbit it too fast for the tracking of the drones, missing much more shots.
