Is that the price to insure, or the amount you get when you are destroyed?

It's platinum insurance payout, which is equal to base cost of all materials that go into it. Edit: cleared up the title a bit. _

Still with the cost of invention, and the profit the builders want as well, that insurance payout will be small compared to actual price it will go for on the market imho.

It's small even compared to actual component cost. While a Raven's base price is 108,750,000 ISK, and that means the mineral/components cost for a Golem are just 171,876,304 ISK, if you are looking at the current Forge prices, you'll be needing around 270 mil for them even if you have a perfect ME blueprint. Still, seeing how component prices are likely to go up after the patch, and the fact you will see -7 or even -8 ME blueprints, that means the components alone will cost somewhere above 500 mil. So, that's around 500 mil for components, 100 mil for the T1 Raven, plus the invention overhead (so, another 100 mil per unit at best), it will cost somewhere around 700 mil to invent and manufacture.
This means you will see the Golem sell a long time from now at around 750 mil ISK (and probably way over 1 bil early on)... getting only 285 mil back when it pops... so less than half. _

Quote: 100 mil for the T1 Raven,
I thought I had read on the forums that using a ship for invention does not increase your chances of getting a good result and so not to use one. Did that change, or did I misunderstand?

You need a T1 hull to produce a T2 ship.

They are buffing decryptors significantly in Rev3... or so tests on SiSi seem to indicate.
Not only will decryptors grant much better ME/PE levels as before (so the need for "extra" components will be smaller as before), but it also looks like they increased the invention chance modifier on most of the decryptors too (so invention overhead per unit should also be a bit smaller). We might actually see prices around 500 mil or so for marauders, and probably even closer to 400 mil for the Black Ops in the long run.

You dont want to remove insurance.
I know it causes market issues, but there needs to be some mechanism that ensures players can get restarted after losing a ship.
When you lose your faction / officer mission raven, at least you get your 100m. Hell if you lose your hauler with everything inside you'll still get 3 or 5m to get started again.
I think it serves a good purpose, although it certianly could use some tweaking.

i do believe one of the ccpers mentioned an invention blog was coming soon. and from what you are saying it sounds much more sensible then the current situation.
overall looks to be inline with current t2 manufacturing costs
