Which one is best in your opinion?
I already got Sony Vegas 8 Pro, but cba to learn how to use it if there are better programs..

I personally much prefer Adobe Premiere for video editing, but there's a fair number out there who would say the reverse and prefer Sony Vegas :P
Basically, the best plan is to try out both and find out which interface you prefer :S
(Sorry for being basically unhelpful, but any opinion I could give would be just that, opinion  )

Basically, there's two pieces of software you should consider.
Premiere and Vegas
There isnt much difference between them, except the user interface, so pick one and stick with it.
The really high-powered **** out there (used for Hollywood movies) is not worth your time, as you won't see any benefit from it for making eve movies.

Vegas is better for audio when you have lots of tracks to mix, but Premiere beats it overall - it just cuts your editing time down enormously.
Add a second monitor for previews = editing in god mode

I prefer Final Cut Studio 2 because of the separate programs it came with and because i find it easy to use  . Also a lot of database (audio,special effects).

from the top video editing software out there, there's no one better than another, it's all just a matter of personal taste.
for me, It's Sony Vegas

sony vegas all the way, but if you just want to make a movie in 5-10min then go for the windows movie maker that comes with all XP and vista, its a good little program and rather easy to learn to use then if you want to work up to the bigger ones then get like Sony vegas
