Ok so I am not that old to this game a few months. Knew right away what people meant about blobing.... The thing I dont get is why do people cry when they get attacked by 7 people and they have 3 yet the 3 have way more play time then all 7 total? Yet theese same 3 with some 11+ years can attack someone with 3 months of play time no problem...
I love nothing better to see a bit over 2:1 ratio and peps crying blob. Yet theese same pirates get 11 ships to camp the Teon gate in Bos. Not to mention when they have 3:1 ratio they just kill the person and in local say "LMAO NOOB!". This always makes me laugh.
The best was the other day myself and a friend jumped into Hield 4 flashys on the gate. F it we open up on them 7 total pirates in local all from the same religious group and local starts going nuts about how myself and my friend are blobing....
Did I miss a memo somewhere? Since when did having less numbers become a blob force? Here I thought for sure I was gunna loose my ship and yet to see them all fly off to dock up. I laughed for about 10 min.
Is it just me or do half the people in this have have a excuse of why they lost or why they ran yet others are always noobs when they win? I see so few who even say GF its a trip.

Because the ammount of sp you have or the age of the character has little to do with winning a pvp fight.

yeah I guess sometimes people just shout 'blob' when a gang > 8 peeps jump into local, esp. when they have no scoutreport :)
Don't really expect fair gameplay from people, you can always make the fight equal and tell your other 12 dudes to NOT jump in and join the fight when you get something even-numbered/classed...
WRT some holy peeps in molden heath, personally I wasn't there for long enough to fully comment on this, but I heared their videos are quite 'blobby'.. try fighting bydi instead :P

pilot skill > total skillpoints and age of char.
you can have all of the skillpoints in the world. that wont save you in pvp...you might live longer, but you will still die in the end.

Edited by: Denaris Torington on 30/10/2007 11:36:58 When you start playing around in lowsec and 0.0, the blobs just get even freakin worse. Sitting in p3ene the other day, I ran circles around a group of bloody blobbers while in a buzzard. Just to see if I could do it, I warp in at the gate, flash in and out of cloak 4 or 5 times inside their dicter bubble, then moved out, without them even coming close to locking me. Only blue in system was me. There were about 8 of them. I laughed hard enough to have my mountain dew spill out my nose. Gives testsament to the statement "Cov ops ftw, biatches!"

You are right in many cases but get 5 non skilled players in a BS a BC a 2 HAC's and a carrier with tons of SP's vs someone with 2million SP who is a great player with skills and he still wont beat them in a rifter.
Though I know that its about player skill too. I just think alot of theese people are scare of a even remotly close fight. Maybe I fought too many skilled pilots with class in my recent war and have come to expect people with skills and balls.

The word blob is often used by people who lose a fight due to being outnumbered. Its quite often the case that PvP elite corps war dec large alliances hoping to kill noobs, but will then whine and cry blob when the alliance fights back using its one advantage IE feilding a much larger force. People tend to take roaming gangs into somone elses space and cry blob when that somone else defends there space with all there avalible force. Personaly I dont like the term blob. A fleet is a fleet a gang is a gang and people have the right to defend there space and alliance with everything they have.

True. But take into account that the given intruders may have just been looking for a good fight(tm).
But I totally agree (and have already stated) that the term is used loosely if they feel threatened 'unfair'

Aren't you mafia guys no longer outlaws ? That makes for an uneven gate fight
I think it's due to the players' perspective. They get used to being in blobs , but still panic when their overview fills up - hence the blobbing accusations , even when they aren't outnumbered I guess it takes some willpower to stay and fight , trusting your gangmates to support you.

tbh id be happy with being blobbed at the moment, cant find a fight for love or money.
i remember our corp forming a gang roughly 30 strong to engage a 150+ fleet once. we were quite willing to fight with those odds.... then they broyught in a titan and nuked our gang

For a while Escador of Outbreak went around Bruce space in Syndicate in his faction-fitted Sleipnir killing almost at will, until we were finally able to blob him. I think the gang was around 50 people. He's got to be one of the best PvPers in all of EvE. Sometimes, as in the case of Escador, blobs are just a reflection of how bad people want to kill you. Escador was certainly Bruce's bogeyman for a couple of weeks.
Just having numbers doesn't always work though. Unless you take advantage of the numbers, with excellent scouting, strong coordination and fleet discipline, you're just a big, slow target that's easily avoided - or worse, a big disorganized target that can be easily dissembled, or outblobbed. My alliance has a reputation for fielding large gangs, so it's not unusual that we show up with even or fewer numbers and have targets run, because they assume there's a huge blob waiting one system over.
Most of the time when people complain about being blobbed, they're just frustrated that they have found themselves in a hopeless situation, unable to effectively fight back. If you play Counterstrike, and are the only person left on your team, with 10 other players still alive on the other, do you type "omg blobbing noobs" into chat? No - because the idea that being outnumbered in that game is accepted, in certain situations. For some reason, in EvE, some players have the idea that fights should be formalized into some kind of arena or duel style combat, where two sides square off with even and balanced numbers - as if it were WoW battlegrounds. Sometimes fair fights happen, sometimes they don't. For some reason people feel the need to cry about it. One of my friends, an old pirate, told me a hilarious story about how he lost a Raven to a blob of griffins (ecm frigates). It was back when having a battleship was a huge deal. He took it in stride, even though the loss hurt him badly. It's what EvE's about. Without the intrigue, danger, calculated risk, and benefit of numbers, it's a space mining game with boring PvE and horrendous lag. If you have a lvl 70 char in WoW with decent equipment, 50 lvl 20 chars aren't going to do jack to you. I remember killing a gang of lvl 40s with my lvl 60 warrior when they decided to try and kill me. I camped the entrance to the instance they were trying to enter for 30 minutes, in retaliation for them attacking me. In EvE, 20 noobs in cruisers can easily take out your faction-fitted battleship. If some pirates are camping a gate, you can get a bunch of low-skilled pilots and have a good chance of forcing them out, no matter how many skill points those pirates have.
Just keep blobbing these people till they go back to WoW. It's better for the game.

lol exactly its a game why cry about it? You know its gunna go down this way sooner or later. My point if you read is the hypocrites not that people cry.
Hypocrite = a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings.
Also people who dont realize what a blob is. If my gang has 10 and we try to fight your 20 man gang we are not blobing you. If your gunna respond please learn to read.
I am guessing you have never played a FPS if you do stay away from my severs people who cry each round is sad.
Its like people who cry about ships useing stabs... Why not cry about someone useing a web or shoot why not cry anytime you die to someone who had to use a weapon instead of just drones to kill you.
I love getting blobed. I just lost my Hyper to a Sleipnir and a Raven well I guess I should say Minmatar Sentry Guns also seeing they did the most damage. I was happy it took 2 people with alot of playtime. I wish it would have taken more.
This is a game if your gunna cry when you die why play? lol....

The term is used differently all the time.
When two groups fight eachother. The losers will name the opponent a blob, and the winners will call the same a fleet battle won.
A blob is basically a gang of ships fighting together in close proximity of eachother, usually assisiting the ones next to them. So if your flying solo in space and get attacked by two opponents that use remote reps, you can honestly say "you been blobbed" others will call it teamwork, or even when more then 50 do it together they will name it fleet support.
Basically, Eve is designed around the fact that the best blobbers will win the day, althou the eve devs prefer to use the term "fleet battle" or fleet command structure.
but yes your totally right to, when you use the terms "i got blobbed to death" when your opponent sent 4 frigates out to take you down. It's all about the perception of the terms and how you chose to use it.

The winning gang is not automatically a blob. To be a blob, the gang has to outnumber the opposing gang by a lot.
A 2-man gang is never a blob. Blobs are very large gangs. They are overkill, pure and simple. 2 v 1 is not overkill.
Also, blobs don't always involve remote repping. The use of remote reps does not signify that a gang is a blob.

Employment age doesn't mean much in EVE. First of all because there is just so much SP you can put in the ships of the race you started with before you get massively diminished returns and 2nd of all, because a employment list doesn't list "he was away from the game", "he is a crap pvp-er", "he bought the character".
Just don't get involved in the local smack, if they are trying to bait you with that it ... just translate everything they say in chinese and post it back. :P
