Ok, I have done a little research and found some old posts on armor tanking and which skills I need to train up but I have a question on the Compensation skills.
The ingame description states: To active armor hardeners: 3% bonus per skill level to Armor Thermal resistance when the modules are not active To passive armor hardeners: 5% bonus per skill level to Armor Thermal resistance
So, being that english is my primary language, I still say...ummm I don't get it. An active hardener is one that you have to click on and consumes cap, so does this description mean that when they are on you get no bonus?
Right now I have the following skills in under Mechanic: Hull Upgrades V, Mechanic V, Repair Systems IV and Salvaging II. Do I need to buy the compensation skill books and train them all to IV? According to Evemon that will take me 7 days and 9 hours, so not a long time by any means. I am just curious if the results are worth the time.
So, are these skills really worth it? I will be flying a Dominix and Megathron in PVE missions with my corpmate if that will make any difference in the justification.
Thanks,

You are correct, sir. When the active modules are turned on, they gain no bonus from the compensation skills. If you run out of cap and they deactive though, they'll still provide some small amount of resists. This is pretty nice with shield invulnerability fields, as you only lose about half the effect of a T2 hardener when it's off.
But compensation skills make EANMs awesome. I'd definitely get them to 4, and then get them to 5 when you don't have anything better to do. ...in bed. |

Thanks for the confirmation that I am not crazy. I guess I will go ahead and train them up.
So should I train them up and then buy the Energized Membrane II's based off of what I need to tank for each mission? Does that mean that I bypass the active hardeners altogether?

Active hardeners will still give more of a bonus to their respective resistance than their energized equivalent, even with the compensation skill at 5. If you're trying to reduce cap usage and can sacrifice some resistances, they are decent.
It's the Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II that really shines when you have the compensation skills at 4 or 5, since it covers all four resists and makes a nice 'last module' to round out your resists or 'only resist module' if you're trying to make a compact tank. --- Yes, I enjoy being an ********. No, your opinion doesn't really matter. |
