As plenty of you would have noticed by now, the price of the Hulk has averaged to about 200-220 million ISK/ship. Before Crucible, the average price of the Hulk was between 220-250 million ISK/ship (300 million more isolated areas).
I figured that with the price of POS fuels going up because of the high-tax NPC COs (or the cost of erecting a POCOs and protecting it), the price of the Hulk would go up a bit because the cost of making T2 components would be passed down to the consumer. But instead, the price went down.
I think I have a theory, but it's not confirmed.
The introduction of the tier 3 battlecruisers allowed gankers to roam around pwning the living daylights out of Hulk miners. Perhaps because of this, the miners may have decided it was better to stick to Covetors or Mackinaws to mitigate their losses and therefore the demand for Hulks dropped thus leaving behind a surplus of Hulks held up in the market that had to be marked down in order to sell.
If you have any theories of your own, I am happy to listen. |

For a longer-term perspective, Hulk prices have been trending up over the last six months (though with a relatively high level of day to day volatility) on relatively stable volume in Jita. Seems to be consistent with the pressure created by moderate rises in some underlying costs. The impact of game enhancemets or changes implemented through patches or expansions (such as Crucible) are often anticipated and built into market pricing well in advance of the actual implementation. |

I see. Well, it sounds like that may be the case, but I still like to wait and see how it turns out. |

Yes, back in Apocrypha a Hulk was way down to under 120M, but then with later changes the cost of tech 2 components went way up, take a look at Photon Microprocessors, they are the main reason Hulks cost as much as they do. |

Not really. The cost of a tier 3 BC gank, after the nerf to insurance if CONCORD was summoned, is about the same as what the older battleship gank boats cost prior to the insurance nerf. Which is still about 50-60M per attempt, for roughly the same alpha strike, and you can get (2) hulks for the price of one gank in the lower end of hi-sec systems.
What is tilting the balance, OTOH, is the improvement in destroyer damage (25-30% or so). So if you needed (3-5) dessies before, now you might be able to do it with one less. |

As an indy in indy corps for a long time i can tell you this.
Plex is easy, and cheaper than an indy toon.
As people figure this out, they stop mining, sell their indy toon and indy gear and they use the isk to do PVP until they get bored with that and then they either get real bitter or they quit the game. In the meantime they just buy plex which is in fact, ruining the game.
Plus, Hulk ganking does have a serious deliterious effect on miners and once ganked they do stop mining and either quit the game or figure out that buying plex is way faster and easier than mining.
There is over 110 mil isk in nanotransistors in a freaking Hulk build that sells as a finished Hulk for 198 mil isk. And that is just one of the components in a Hulk build.
The game is pooched as in when a dog squats.
So yeah, demand and supply and prices are all way down for Hulks as miners leave the game.

I seriously doubt gankers take into consideration of cost and insurance refund before ganking a miner.
