eve is all about maximizing specialization not generalization. ships with the highest number of mid or low slots usually make it the uber in it's class. minmater have some good ships but this split weapons advantage you talk about ... get outta here.
Well in the situations he is describing it IS overpowered, such as medium-gang warfare skirmishes along established battle lines where you will have a logistics ship to boost. Split weapons are super-nerfed solo and super-overpowered in medium gangs with logistics. I think OP is on to something...

No. On a split-weapon ship (say rails and missiles), what it means is that in order to get your best damage potential you need 6 damage mods (3 MFS, 3 BCS) instead of the 3 you'd need for a single-weapon ship.
Split-weapon ships can be very versatile and adaptable, but they'll never match single-weapon ships for sheer damage potential. From my experience, it's better to be really good at one or two things than okay at a lot of things.

Oh yeah to the topic...I have a Typhoon and actually, I think it is fairly balanced. I am certainly not going to be able to slug it out with a tempest, but I shouldnt be anyways.
However, it is a fantastic ship in a gang and its really the "Jack of all traits" Battleship. It runs missions well but there are better ships, it actually pvps pretty well but there are better ships, it has good survivability but there are better ships. It does excel at endurance with drones all day long and a pretty large cargo hold means I can go hunting with it for hours and its highly configurable to shore up a weak spot in a gang.
I dont know about other split weapon ships, but the typhoon is balanced and useful.
Mine fires crusie missiles, Neuts, and x-reps. great gang ship along with 3 Trimarks and the tank puts it over 30K armor HP.

This really doesn't seem to make sense here.
Lets take two ships, one with 50% missiles 50% rails, and another ship with 100% rails.
Lets say in theory 3 damage mods double a ships DPS for that type.
Ok, so you add 3 mag-stabs to your ship setups. The 'split weapons' ship gains double damage, on half its weapons, while the 100% rails ship gets double damage on everything. To equal this the split weapons ship has to fit 3 mag stabs and 3 missile damage booster mods (no idea what they are, i'm gallante, i do gunnery not missiles).
So yeah, split wepaons ships can use 3 additional damage mods, 3 that boost rails, and 3 that boost missiles, but still does no more damage boosting per weapon than a pure-rails ship that has 3 rail-boosting damage mods... right?
Even if there were mods that boosted both rails and missile systems, since the stacking, as far as i understand it, is per-attribute, this wouldnt change anything anyway, the stacking isn't by mod-type its by what attributes are modified, using 3 'rail only' mods and 3 'hybrid boosts rail and missiles' mods still hits a 6x stacking nerf on the rail attributes.
*confused* am i missing something or is the OP missing something?

Quite honestly I abhor split weapon ships, yet I fly Minmatar. The problem with the assertion that because people fly ships from Races that HAVE split weapon ships means that they fly those Races Ships BECAUSE they have Split Weapon Ships is that there are many other reasons to fly Gallente and Minmatar.
Minmatar: Fastest ships in the game, best looking ships in the game (IMO), Good bonuses and RoF, Speed = Turret Range Determination, Strong Power Grid.
Gallente: Most powerful ships in the game, Great Bonuses to weapons, Super Strong Tanks (Armor but Also Shield in some Cases), Extremely Powerful Drones which can do any type of Damage you want, Large Drone Bay = Versitility in Drone Types, Strong Power Grid and Good CPU, Okay Speed, Good Cap Management.
People fly Caldari and Amarr less because they are junk for PvP. Amarr suffer Cap problems and their Lasers are really not the creame of the crop in any way. The Caldari...Well...Heh...Yeah anyway, there is no reason to fly those things. +++++++++++++++ I saw the Sign...!

Still trying to figure out how things are working here.
So... since on my Typhoon, half my weapons aren't getting any ship class bonus at all, and half my weapons get no result from any given damage modules.... I am getting MORE dps? You're mythical 3 damage mod ship with one weapon type, needs 6 of them for a mixed weapon ship. It's not MORE dps, it's LESS.

Troll is already ThreadFail.
Check your math on weapon upgrade modules, you need twice as many modules to get the same bonus on a split-weapon ship.

Frankly the OP is quite wrong. Split weapons means that neither weapon system is at 100% efficiency (remember ship boni also need to be split), and you have to slap on more damage mods to get full DPS.
This is why I abhor Roden Shipyards, and most of their creations. ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars. |
