Shield Power Relay II Shield Power Relay II Shield Power Relay II Shield Power Relay II
Core Defense Field Purger I Core Defense Field Purger I Core Defense Field Purger I
this gives resistances 47.5 / 58 / 68.5 / 79%
12,863 shield recharging over 138.2 seconds, meaning it passively boosts 93 hp per second, can this tank sentry fire indefinitly? as has large recharge but low EM and thermal resists

Easilly. Sentries do roughly 350 dps, 2/3 of that is kin/therm.
Peak shield recharge for that drake is 93*2.4=223hp/sec, throw in resists and you will likely not even reach 2/3 shields.

what do you mean by peak shield recharge, i never fly shield tanked ships always use armor :) is that like when your cap gets to a certain level it starts recharging more?

so when my shield gets to its peak point, (which is at what percentage by the way?) it will start recharging 230 per second?

35%?
so theoretically, this means that when my shield hits around the 4,000 mark i start repping automatically 230 hitpoints her second, awesome :)

Yep, well it will rep more and more until you reach around 35%, then it will drastically reduce in repping until it reaches 0%. This is my setup for camping gates with lots of others.
7x Heavy Missile Launcher II
Warp Disruptor II Invulnerability Field II Sensor Booster II Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II
Shield Power Relay II Shield Power Relay II Shield Power Relay II Power Diagnostic System II
No Rigs
Since your not very likely to get all the turrets on you at once, this setup is cheap and cheerful as its rigless.

that fitting would tank sentries yes,
mines also does,
I fith 2 invult t2, 3 LSE, 24km scram 3SPR, 1BCS em rig + 2 purger,
less overall recharge than u but it works, can tank sentries plus a bs target, or even hold a squad of gangkers in place long enough for u to get support in,
love playing bait :)

This is the best setup suggested so far. Except:
7HML II 3 LSE II, Invuln II, Sensor Booster II, Warp Disruptor II 4 SPR II 3x CDFP I
You don't even have to turn on your invuln very often to tank the sentries... and you should sit around 60% shields most of the time.
I've never been ganked in lowsec with a setup like this... and I spent quite some time as a lowsec pirate. Also, I used appropriate scouting. :p

TBQFH, you have to use a tanking bonused BC to really tank sentries. Already lowsec PVP is infinitely different than 0.0 PVP. Mostly, because nobody uses anything smaller than a BC in lowsec.
I'd say sentries need nerfed.

Sentries are fine. As Liang said, not all BCs can tank sentries. What needs fixing is passive shield tanking. --- Proud Amarr pilot.

your setup is not pasive as you have one active modual try this; Mid slots: large shield extender II large shield extender II kinetic deflection amplifier II heat dissipation amplifier II explosion dampening amplifier II Shield Recharger II
Low slots: Shield Power Relay II X4
keep those rigs and your recharge rate will be quite impresive

There's absolutely no reason to use a fully passive setup - ever.
Liang
Ed: Furthermore, its ridiculously silly to say that the setup is not passive. It does not have a shield booster, now does it?

TBH, there's nothing really wrong with passive shield tanking. The full slot tank is just stupid, and should never be used outside of missions.
IMHO, it should never be used inside missions either. No speed mod, no damage mods, no tackle, no ewar, no anything but tank. Useless.
Besides, passive armor tanks are still generally better choices (alot).

Um, I fail to see how the word "lazy" comes into it. Cowardly I might have seen, but not lazy.
Also, TBH, there's not alot else you can do with a Drake. To make a viable nano drake (imho the only *other* viable setup) requires 3x polycarbs (omgexpensivelollerskittles).
Either way, you can't fit a Drake without rigs and remain competitive with other BC's (even without rigs).

Easy-mega that has 40k armor and and neutron blasters=gank mobile. But in low sec i wouls suggest dual large rep electron blaster setup so you can tank sentry fire -=YYYAAAAARRRRRRR!!!!!=- Winning or Losing doesn't matter, as long as the fight itself was good.

So, you're just talking about setting up a huge armour buffer. That's not passive tanking. Or if it is, the definition has changed again

If I'm camping a gate, I use this set up:
7x T2 heavies 3x LSE T2, 2x T2 invuln, 1x t2 warp scrambler 4x SPR
It can only run all of that for about 7 minutes, but that should be way more than enough time to bring down whatever you're after. I can't usually catch frigates with this set up, but I do get most cruisers and larger. It's pretty skill intensive, too. ...in bed. |
