Well, it's to be expected, no? I mean, if you consider the design model for practically all other MMOs, they've basically taught people that their in game worth is directly related to how much loot, bling, RPs, gold, whatever they've accrued. Right? So if your measure of success, and hence enjoyment of the game, is bound to collecting stuff, it makes for a pretty greedy outlook, yeah?
So they get tired of the WoW hamster wheel and come to Eve. But the idea that you could be beat up by some other player and lose all your stuff to them is just inconceivable. "Why should some other player be able to take away my game enjoyment?", they ask because they're still in that "stuff = achievement = fun" mode of game play.
So, rather than try to explain to each of these people that they're going to have to redefine what "fun" is to get into the Eve mode, it's just easier to say:

Mind, I think L2P is one the most annoying acronyms the WoW kiddies have come up with yet. And Go Back to WoW isn't much better. But the reasons behind it aren't so hard to see. Eve isn't that easy to explain to someone who's been taught practically the opposite by 20 years of RPGs and grindy-grind MMOs.
