Just curious if there is any benefit to having science skills such as Plasma Physics or Engineering Subsystem Technology and the like to V. Higher chance of invention, faster research?
Thanks, I appreciate it! |

something like 1% per skill higher chance, that is you get about 48% with 2 lvl4 skills and 50% with 2 lvl 5 skills.
if your invention profitability depends on these 2% you'd better find something more profitable to do. |

The funny thing about this is it looks like 2% "better" but it's actually a lot higher then that.
at 48% you have a waste chance of 52. At 50% you have a waste chance 50.
The difference between 52 and 50 is just under 4% less waste on your invention. Add that to the more rp's and the improvement is even higher. 4% can go a long way by the time you get to finished product and have to deal with the trade margins.
It's not great but not as useless as it first seems. |

I wouldn't worry about level 5 skills unless you are inventing jumpfreighters or reverse engineering intact relics. |

My two cents, I'd stay at something like 4/4/4. I'd say every little bit helps but getting them to level V is a chug up a very steep mountain. It's also very demoralizing (aka a kick in the pants) when you do a batch of 30 jobs and only end up with 2-3 successful ones. It may even out in the long run, but that short run of failures sucks. |

As an industrialist, Mechanical Engineering V is the only one of those skills I really needed to V; as mentioned above you not only get higher probability for inventions, but you also generate more RP's for mech cores, which have a pretty steady payout on the market, with less fluctuation compared to other datacores.
So yes, there's a purpose, but its not necessarily worth putting many of them to V; for me mech V works great for what I do, which is T2 ship invention, construction and sale |

Level 5's are actually far better than 1-2 % if you use meta-items
these are the chances for a normal module with metas:
Level Meta 0 Meta 3 Meta 4 4/4/4 0,483 0,582 0,749 5/5/5 0,504 0,630 0,840
if you invent most of your stuff using meta they can be worth it, otherwise i woudn't give them a high priority |

science V is also door opener for capitals ... as my all-BS-V character just discovered. We can build and sell pretty much every ship. Check my bio for details. Our pirate epic arc completion packages really are very good: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=12973&find=unread |

This is where the extra accounts pay off. My 4th account has the Ore industrial skills to 5 so it can salvage behind the other 3 toons. Enough industrial skills to do all the reprocessing perfectly and all the rest into science for messing around with blueprints. When I hit that point where I can't be bothered to play eve and I'm looking for something different, I get out the science toon and flip through the BP's. Well it's either that or lurk around in the forum annoying the crud out of everyone. |
