Do you get an error when trying to install, more details would help solve this. We have a few Ubuntu machines inhouse and they are all 64 bit as far as I know, mine is at least and I've not encountered any problems with the install.
For me, the installation on a stock 64bit Ubuntu install did not work, but as I went looking for answers on the net, I ended up having to install Flash, and that installed a crapload of 32bit stuff, and somehow it all worked after that.
what did you actually install to make it work? I don't want to mess up my system and install now everything what cotains flash :(
(now support for gentoo would be plain awesome) --- we are open for applications convo me ---

Ok, the windowed mode still is ****ty compared to wine. When enabled (as described in http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=517 ), Eve no longer seems to recieve keyboard key presses...

I'm crossposting this from the patch response thread, since I'm sure it will get lost over there.
The linux client is plagued with graphical errors. The game is absolutely not playable at all for me, or anyone else I've talked to who is trying to use it. I can't open the ingame menu to fiddle with the settings (well, it opens, but all you can see are a couple of characters and glitchy graphics). It also appears to be impossible to leave the window without using a keyboard shortcut to switch workspaces. Also, it often leaves zombie processes lying around after you close it. Aside from eating resources, they have to be manually killed before you can start the program again or else you get black screen/splash and crash.
To copy and paste a rant from the goonfleet boards:
the documentation was pretty ******* atrocious. they only had installation instructions for some of the packages. there was no readme or directions for the .tgz version at all. no man page written for the command (which is /usr/bin/eve, by the way. i had aliased a cxoffice instance to this and couldnt run it immediately), and though i saw during the install that you can feed it arguments, i can find no documentation on what they were or how to use them. also, if youre not using an IDE (and im not) then they dont mention that the configuration is added to any existing cedega install, and thats where you need to go to configure the emulation settings.

Just tried it out on my new 2.2ghz MacBook and it locks up as soon as I go to the options screen to try and turn off the damn music. I'm not expecting terrific performance on this thing, but I'd like to be able to do a little hauling for my corp while I'm watching TV or something like that, y'know?
So, uhhh, got a little work to go on this guys, but at least I don't have to use my Windows machine to change skills!
Gonna try it on my June 2006 vintage Intel iMac now. -------------------------------------------------------- Working towards my own personal Dreadnought, one ISK at a time. |

Seems to be running nicely on my iMac. Haven't taken my BS out for a spin yet, but I rarely do on the weekdays. At least the Esc menus don't crash!
Overall, certainly better than not being able to run Eve on Mac at all! -------------------------------------------------------- Working towards my own personal Dreadnought, one ISK at a time. |

Yeah, it works on my MacBook (duel centrino thing), but the graphics are real buggy. My portrait along with most everyone else's wont load, and it crashed when I click on more than 2 at a time. Several starbase interiors turns various colors, and the whole thing just runs choppy. I think I will stick to windows for a bit 'till this thing gets ironed out a bit more. On the bright side, I noticed that some of graphic bugs allowed me to see a word written on the bottom of a minmatar mining station in Moselgi. Can't make out exactly what it says, but there is definately something written there.

I'm running an original MacBook Pro, which is within the specs - clean leopard install. I get the error "You can't open the application "EVE Online" because it is not supported on this architecture.
I think there's a bug in the detection routing - this is an Intel Mac that matches the specs...

I'm on a MacBook Pro with Leopard, and the client runs well for the most part. Graphics are smooth and fast, and the right click seems to work better than under Win2K (why is this so inconsistent?).
However - the app does not deal well with suspend AT ALL, usually requiring a force quit or even reboot to clear. More importantly, I crashed several times out of combat situations with "Cider error" messages appearing on the desktop.

macbook here (the black one - duo core, 2 gig mem) i did a little QA for you ccp - within 30 minutes testing i found out:
- within 30 minutes the macbook totally freezed 3 or more times, i had to hard reboot which is nasty on a *NIX filesystem
can be REPRODUCED by quitting game (ESC, yes, really quit -> lockup) if it doesnt freeze first time try it 3 times in a row, or wait for tranquility to go down as in a downtime. Seems to be a sure thing to get the macbook totally freezed when the client should be exiting or returning to the splash screen/login
- no windowed gameplay (why? the crossover version can do it)
- the old grafix bugs are back again -horay, but playing around with the graphics settings may help, at least for a time.
- its very laggy compared to the run via bootcamp/win xp on the same hardware
... here i interrupted my testing with the last freeze tranquility went down i imagine you have the cash to hire some real QA folks, go ahead and do it.

You do realize you're running on unsupported hardware, right? It clearly states the minimum system requirements as "ATI X1600 or NVidia 7300", which the Macbook and the Mac Mini cannot fulfill. It's also a well known fact that the Intel GMA950 drivers on OS X are less than stellar.

EVE runs better on my mac book pro than on my quad xeon4 6gig mem system with an nvidia 8800GT 23" FPD and a raid0 Seagate Barracuda 10k rpm LVD array.
The MBP gets a 1/3 of the frame rate as my main machine, but it's smoother, no lag, and looks more cinematic.
It doesn't make any sense at all! ...less frame rate but more responsive/playable?

I'm happy that Linux is finally officially supported, but would like to have some issues sorted out: - numbers block on keyboard not working (I think Cedega has not managed to support this yet, opposed to Wine). This is no fun for my trading alt - resolution of login screen = 1024x768, even though the game runs on 1680x1050 - game needs a lot longer to start than unde Wine, even the slash screen takes longer to load - Cedega still has not all grafx of the recent eve client done right, so I remain a bit skeptical about directX10 support in the near future
For me, the new client seems to have a slightly better performance in space than Wine, not complaining about that one. :)

font is ariel.ttf I think, it needs to be copied into the fonts dir. dx9 problem is either dx9d30.dll or dx9d_30.dll, something like that... it needs to be copied into system32 dir. If you get splash and crash issues you have to go into pref.ini and disable sound. There are a few other odds and ends that are all known work-a-rounds for getting eve to work under cedega, which are documented in their forums. I never did get Cedega to work after the patch in late Sept though. Almost every single error found in the normal version of cedega is still here folks, plus a few extras just to make life interesting from the sounds of it. But hey, its sorta like patch day. Eve always breaks for linux on patch day!! :)

so we dont have a "mac client" but a "macbook pro" client.
If the minimum requirements exclude half of the mac types out there then it is reason enough for a little less euphoria imo.

Running the client on a QUAD CORE MACPRO (Intel 3.2 Ghz * 4 *4 - 16GB Ram) under Leopard and Window'd - is very very impressive - bumped up the display to the max and runs very smoothly. 32 inch Cinema Displays * 2 although would love dual screen support (sniff) - now i surf and mine :).
In addition it runs on My MacBook Pro (2.4 Dual Core Duo) and my girlfriends MacBook (2.0 ghz). So im pretty sure it runs under all Intel architectures....

Although I couldn't test the game yet (just when I got to downloading it the unexpected downtime started) I'm very happy CCP finally supports linux and mac.
Although I've taken a very long time to find out you don't have to pay for cedega, (found it first in this blog) so that would be a good thing to explicitly add to the minimal requirements. Arrow Capital Ship Sale |

I see that in Mac OS minimal requirements you state X1600 for ATI cards. I've got a laptop that fulfills all other requirements except this one but when I run EVE on my X600 Mobile under Windows I get decent framerates. So I figured that 15% less performance won't bother me that much but a minimal is a minimal and that leaves me puzzled.

Honestly? It's a bit pointless to create a port to a system that can already potentially run windows as a dual boot. Any linux system can dual boot windows and if you want to play, it's easy to switch back.
Same for Mac.
But a real port that would be usefull would be one that could allow the folks out there that have a Mac with PPC as a secondary machine (say a laptop) and take it on the road with them and leave their windows PC behind.
Everyone's raving about this new build, but I'm still stuck at my desk.
