Messing around with different camera modes and zoom levels, I've noticed that the camera sways around your ship. It's most pronounced if you use ctrl + left button + right button and zooming in. Can we turn off this camera motion somewhere please!? It's making me nauseous.

Your camera view is actually a live feed from a drone that has a max control range which is why you cant look at objects over a certain range - and why when you reset the camera view, it zooms back (not instantaneous).
This feeds the image to YOU inside your gooey pod. When you zoom in the any motion is exagerated just like if you were to look through a telescope while standing on a boat.
This is how you pilot your ship - through the eyes of the camera drone - aka the keyboard and monitor you are using in real life.
Kooky huh.

Meh. I know all that about the camera drones. I'm also pretty sure that by the time we can build ships the size of small cities, we can create enough tech and good programming to have a stable camera view from a variety of sources outside the ship. That exaggerated motion with the shift+2 button zoom is almost enough to make it unplayable.
I just want to be able to use that zoom style all the time without the sway. I have to go to work right now, but tomorrow, I'll post some screen shots of bore and after pics to show the difference.

Remember Eve is not a vacuum - it's actually inside some sort of gas and thus the reasoning for the way our ships work an fly (more like a boat than a space ship).
Eve space is not a vacuum.

my response exactly. Seriously, could this be any more of a non-issue? - The game is not the problem. The problem is that you are not adapting to the game.

Edited by: Peirce on 09/11/2007 09:45:00 Can't get the link to work for some reason. On the left near the top you see an option under "screenshots & art" called "backstory". Click that, then click "eve Chronicles" and in the list find "Camera Drones" that should explain it for you.
You will also find lots of other interesting reading that should answer some of your questions.
Hope this will clear things up a bit

You may get nauseus from your camera moving around, but have you ever flown a tempest/rifter/probe etc? I get sea-sick just watching them in my hanger when the camera is still! ____________________ Hi. I'm not an alt :) |

It's added to please the eye IMO. Static = boring and unrealistic. Pretty much any camera shot will have some form of shake, and I know a few eve vid guys (myself included) go through a lot of trouble to add camera wobble to otherwise boring shots.
It probably is over-pronounced on high zoom though, but personally I like it.

This.
Eve does not simulate outer space well. Heck, CCP doesn't even try. It's the pretty graphics, gameplay, and community that get all the attention. And rightly so in my humble opinion. ---

I've sure there's an option in the setup window for "Dithering". Does this stop the camera swaying slightly?

The swaying is nauseous. You are nauseated.
I don't see what's wrong with the OP's question. It's just that, until you get all your Forum skills trained up, a lot of people have trouble asking a question without it sounding like a whine. ----- TANSTAAFL

It's not microscopic when you use the CTRL + LBUTTON + RBUTTON zoom. It's VERY noticeable and distracting. When you zoom out using the scroll wheel, the entire screen (not the UI) jinks around like a spider on ***** spinning a web.
Originally by: Le Skunk The simple answer to your problem is not to zoom in. Theres pretty much zero need as far as i can think of apart from making boring treks through space slightly less boring.
Zooming in that way makes combat far more interesting to watch (if the cameras didn't sway around so damn much and puts ships and structures and other celestial bodies into a far better perspective that just looks so much better than the standard view.

Aye, it is highly over-pronounced on the high zoom. I'd just like an option to toggle the camera sway. I can see how it adds a little more realism when making videos though. Too much however hides too much of the detail. Like in a bad action movie with split second cuts to different angles.

Dithering is to break up large scale repetitive patterns. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dither
Has nothing to do with camera sway. C'mon devs... can we have an option to toggle the camera sway please?

Quote: The camera drones are suspended some distance from the ship. They attach to the ship by using a combination of an attractive magnetic force and repulsive electromechanical force, this also allows them to orbit the ship at any desired position.
THIS is the reason for the swaying.

I haven't actually ever noticed the sway when not zoomed in using the whole zoomy thing, or of course in warp. Zoomed in all the way though can make me feel sick.
