Why does it take my Amarr character 51 days to train for T2 turrets when my Caldari character of roughly equivalent stats only takes 23 days for T2 missiles?
Am I missing something about T2 turrets later on that make them worth more than DOUBLE T2 missiles' training time?

You are missing, that it takes your Caldari char also 51 days to train for T2 Hybrids and that while all T1 Amarr ships are laser boats only half of the T1 Caldari ones are decent missile ships.

Skill plans for training missiles and guns are imba... All you need is launcher op 5 to get t2 cruise/torps.
For t2 large guns you need motion prediction 5/sharpshooting 5, med/small turret 5, and applicable spec skills at 4.
I never thought it was in any way balanced, but then I'm not going to complain because missiles suck ____________________ Hi. I'm not an alt :) |

And an Amarr character plenty of days to train the missiles skills to use half our ships
I think the original plan for those support skill needs is that then you can use ANY turret. But it doesn't quite work like that.

Hmm? What about heavy missiles III to even get the cruise missile skill? Or that you need cruise V for t2 cruise?

when you have trained for t2 large guns you can use t2 medium and small ones as well. if you wanted to do the same with missiles covering the same ranges as guns you would have to train for t2 rockets, light missiles for the frigs, hams and heavys for cruiser and torps and cruise for bs.

take a phoon out with 4 mil sp in gunnery and 200 k in missiles. load torps (t1 torps) and lrg ac (t1 ammo), go and rat a bit. target 1 ship with ac and 1 with torps. can't hit anything below bs with ac (maybe a little dmg on cruisers), torps no problem. bs go down in about the same time, maybe even a little faster with torps. and that is with 3x t2 gyro, 2x t2 tracking comps, and 2x t2 bcu. stop with the missiles suck.

seems an advantage to me, specialization is where it's at anyway. train exactly what you want when you want and not have to worry about the middle stuff.

hello nubs,
how come i have 12m+ sp under missiles when they are so easy to train? I trained rockets 5 for my crow. Then i got into speed and trained light missiles 5. After i got bored i trained heavy 5 for cerb. That sucked but then i found sacrilege, had to train heavy assault 5. Before that i used to fly precision cruise raven and guess what, i had to train cruise missiles lvl5. For npc killing (when i did that) i used t2 sieges and again i had to train torps to lvl5. Im not gonna talk about missile support skills. Less bonuses, higher ranks. Now please add all that together and tell me that missiles are "easier" to train. Thats bullcrap.

That is not accurate, you need Torp 5 or Cruise Missile 5 to use the T2 Launchers.
Where missiles benefit is from light specialization requirements. Cruise Missile Specialization only needs Heavy Missiles III (rank 3), Standard Missiles III (rank 2) and Missile Launcher Operation III (rank 1).
I think they take the whole package into consideration. Caldari have to train Shields, Hybrids and Missiles for full effectiveness. Even a missileboat like the Raven can fit two turrets with its launchers.
Shield tanking is also far more skill demanding than armour tanking.

That's actually true, but i find that the shield recharge thing compensates it rather nicely.
To armor tank, you need...umm...well...a repper?
Passive tanking not included that is.

Shield recharge is largely useless unless you take a passive tank setup, this usually dominates all your low and mid slots and gives you at best a basic level of offence and is only really suited to the smaller ships, battlecruiser and smaller, as battleships recharge times are too long and shield extenders stop at large making it difficult to get a viable passive tank setup.
Amar battleships are the best passive shield tankers thanks to the 7 or 8 low slots, you can get an Amar battleship to passive tank around 900dps which isn't too shabby. Mind you, the ship will have to field projectiles, dont think it would have the cap to fire energy weapons. ;)

You cannot compare missile and gunnery training. Skill tree and skill ranks are different.
Secondly. Amarr is now MISSILE RACE too.
