Create a code in the programming if possible. Have it check for usage on a cargo can. If a cargo can hasn't been used in 30 days, it starts a 10 day decay process. The decay can be halted at any time by simply visiting the can and performing a cargo operation, using the password, etc. This idea came about after visiting the ice field in Halaima. Warping to the ice field my computer hiccuped briefly as a thousand cans loaded.
Corps dissolve, people change corps, people quit the game, etc. And any cans they anchored sit there forever.

Hello,
This is a variant of an idea I was tooling with a while back. Maybe they would only be unanchored after 30 days, and then could be taken back for 'ransom' to the corporation or just opening it.
However, apparently CCP thought cutting our bio space to 20% of what it used to be was more important to save lag and hard drive space. I've thought of a lot of lag-saving ideas, but I don't think CCP is interested

Yes i Say dont destroy cans after 30 days of inactivity, just unanchor them.
That way 0.0 sapespot cans are safe (as they should be) but all those cans in belts can be scooped and taken!

or just make it so that bombs work in hi sec but only damage anchored cans and not players :) I'd spend the isk to clean up my neck of the woods. wouldn't you?

Make it simple, allow anchored cans to be attacked, an only cause an aggression counter instead of a criminal counter. ------------------------------------ Soni-Corp Co-CEO

Unanchoring sounds good too. In the case of Halaima, someone would literally clean up on that day, lol! Only problem is that in some places the can(s) will still take up space on the database. If no one is using a can, due to leaving the game, corporation or just can't be bothered unanchoring it the system should be set up to remove it. Safe spot cans would be okay as long as they're being used. That's why I suggested a 40 day timer (30 day + 10 day decay). If someone hasn't used that safe spot in that amount of time, it's a good bet it'll not be used again for a while longer.
Or modify that other suggestion about free shooting. CCP has a programmer make all orphan cans (owners have left the game or corporations are now closed) flash red. Let the player base dispose of the cans.
That would get rid of a bunch of cans I believe.

QFT!!!! only problem is that GSC has LOTS of hp so it would take an army to kill just one
