Hey all,
Just got in my Drake today and I was considering something. Since im using mine for a Empire war im kind of undecided wether or not to use HAMs or Heavies. One of the midslots need to be a Scrambler, since my targets like to flee every now and then What I wanna know is will the HAMs be a more viable choice for such battles (Between 15-20km) or should I stick to the Heavies?
Love to hear it! ------

Hams; more dmg, less range
Heavys; Less dmg, more range.
Go for hams if ur wanting to fight close range. *snip* Modifying another player's signature graphic to insult them is trolling. -Rauth Kivaro ([email protected]) |

I'd recommend HAMs, simply for the extra damage. But you'll need decent fitting skills to make good use of them, and fitting T2 launchers is very important for the Javelin HAM range.

HAMs should still be able to get 20km range, and as you said, you're unlikely to be fighting beyond that range.
I'd go with them.

THen HAMs it is.
At the moment this is what my skill allows me to use:
Highs 7x Heavy Assault Launchers I's with Faction Missiles
Mids Invul Field I, Photon Field I, Heat Dissipation Field I, 2x Large Regol Ext, 20km Scrambler
Lows 2x BCS named, 2x PDS I
Nice resist (cant check atm but iirc 70 65 72 65 or so) and the capacitor sustains itself well - stable at 70 to 75%
Suggestions welcome, especially tips to deal with HACs (Ishtars namely). ------

The only thing you will really get by going to T2 Heavies is more capacity. The T2 heavy missles do about the same damage as the Caldari Navy factions, but the factions retain range. If you are fighting in close < 30K, by all means use the T2 heavy missles because they are significantly cheaper than the Faction missles. I like resistance amps for shield protection, I use all T2 on my Drake and Raven. Train up the Shield compensation skills to Level V, this will boost your shield resistances without active cap usage. Train all shield skills like Tactical Shield Manipulation, etc. I have my Raven at 16000 shield and all my resitances in the 60-70% range. Light and Heavy missles hardly scratch the shield, especially against NPCs. Also, you may consider leaving at least one Launcher FoF in case you get jammed, and even a rocket launcher to handle those pesky drones.

You have T1 launchers and no speed mod. Unless ALL your combat is going to be at a station or gate - and you won't need to burn it back to a gate in a hurry - you'll have a problem getting into range sooner or later.
One of Javelin HAMs or MWD is pretty much necessary, and many would say that both are.
As for dealing with Ishtars (assuming nanoIshtar here), just kill the drones as best you can, and hope you can tank him until he gets bored and flies off, or you deagress and jump/dock.
