for the past 4 hours, settings on high etc, my PC was fine (as it should be)
I load up eve (after closing fear, ofc) and BLAM all my fans spin up to max, the gushing air from the back of my PC is HOT and I am forced to shut eve down to save my PC from heat death. crazy.
I seriously can't wait for the new client, December yeah?

more than enough to run eve :P
I'm guessing it's something about my PC, or how eve is interacting with it that makes it run as fast as is possible.
I wonder if anyone knows how to set a limit on the FPS eve runs at?

I don't think the FEAR + Eve combo is what set off the fans, probably a coincidence. (I play FEAR and EvE, no problems) Speaking of, is the new expansion "Perseus Mandate" good?

I have the same problem too. I have numerous modern games that I play on my dual core opteron setup and whenever I start up EVE my computer's fans speed up and my CPUs start work their butts off.

Well, EVE right now is obviously a CPU game. So, it uses a lot of CPU and gives the Graphics card a good night sleep. New client will fix this - and we all don't have to fry our pc :) _ Planet Sight Wallpaper - EvE map |

My friends graphics card melted after he played FEAR maxed for about a week. he had inadequate cooling. Also and Inadequate brain.

Edited by: Plutoinum on 11/11/2007 21:06:09 If you have a modern graphics card and play with v-synch off or in eve-settings terms with 'interval immediate', it's quite understandable.
Basically there is an endless loop executing in EVE: 1) processing the input (CPU work) 2) updating the game world (CPU work) 3) pre-computing graphics, like computing the triangles, triangle-strips or whatever graphics primitives the grampics card is fed with. (CPU work) 4) drawing and texturing those triangles (GPU work)
With v-sync off (interval immediate) this loop runs as fast as it can. And since the graphics card does step 4 with ease, the CPU doesn't really get a break there, but delivers the data and starts right away at step 1 again.
=> The CPU core that the EVE client is using is running at 100% utilization and crunching numbers as fast as it can to compute the graphics without any break.
=> It's getting warm, but the CPU should have no problems with it, because it's its job to crunch numbers as fast as it can without having a break. If you compile programs or compute a weather simulation, the CPU is also supposed to run at fullspeed for hours and not supposed to take breaks to sleep a bit. If a computer can't handle it I think there is something wrong with the computer.
Ok, maybe not really a situation that a laptop user likes, I admit.

Yes, actually I'm down to 20% CPU usuage with v-synch on. With v-synch off I have 50% CPU usage. (Which means one core of my dual core CPU is running at 100%)

You need to fix your computer. Computers are built to compute and if they overheat while doing so then they have inadequate ventilation and/or are being clocked above manufacturer's recommendation. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

One way is to edit the prefs.ini file.
Just add 'advancedDevice=1' as the very first line. This gives you some extra graphics options in eve, which lets you choose 'interval one' (= v-synch on) and 'interval immediate' (= v-synch off).
prefs.ini is probably in your My Documents\EVE or My Documents\EVE\Cache folder somewhere.
( If you are using the LUA:OFF option, then that Cache folder isn't in My Documents, but the EVE game folder itself.)
