hey hey
Now that CCP have lowered the skill req of the "TII Freighter" to Freighter 4 it got me thinking.
What if they werent Tech II and were downgraded to simple variation. We already have jump capable ship classes and they are not considered TII. Downgrading the ship to a TI would also solve the problem of their huge price tag and invention dilemas. CCP could then set the build cost to a more appropriate level and then seed the BPO accordingly.
In in the future CCP decide to release an actual TII styled freighter with TII style resists and bonuses then Freight V would then be the skill and invention be the route for production.
Personally i dont actually feel that just 'cause the Nomad has a jump drive it makes it Tech II

You might not like to hear this, but CCP thinks the pricetag is appropriate. -- [17:47] <Mephysto> its dead, jim |

Why only Freighter 4? Every Tech 2 ship ingame needs the tech 1 skill at level 5

Because 'fixing' stuff with weird exceptions or explanations is becoming the norm these days..

Because people have been upset to hear that they'll have to train an almost useless skill level for 40 days just to get a working replacement for hauling carriers. Perhaps it'll become tier 2 instead of tech 2. -------------------------------------------------- I'm a rich person. How I know? I can afford to be a miner. |

I hope, because I don't see the 'very high tech' thing in the jumpfreighter... It's a capital ship with a jumpdrive, what's new in this?
Make it cost more in capital parts (capital capacitor parts and capital shueld/armor parts and capital jumpdrive parts, capital engines parts...). Then, everyone can build it at high mineral cost (make it the price of an average faction fitted carrier) without hitting the datacore market even more... -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

Hate be the bearer of bad news but ccp seem pretty happy with the way they are. Invention reqs have now not change for weeks and then there is always this nice comment from a dev.

accept it, they're t2, start planning according instead of whining.

I do think this would be best. If you're going to remove the carrier as a viable tech I jump hauler, then you need to replace it with another viable tech I jump hauler.

If they wanted a true TII variant then its skill prerequisite would be freighter V. However, CCP changed this to Freighter IV. Let us consider why this was done.
Were they pandering to the whiners or was there some other specific reason freighter V was lowered ? IF they truly wanted them "hard to obtain (T2)" then why lower the skill req ?
Will CCP also change their minds over the multitude of complaints and fears over TII BS/Freight production costs ? The lead times alone and then the production times are enough to put anyone off producing one of these ships.
Also consider what actually makes a TII ship. High Skill reqs, multiple bonuses, Higher Resists, Superior ship, distinctive advantage. The Jump Freighter pretty much only has 1 advantage over the standard one and thats its jump drive :/
I will agree that this new class will add to deep space logistics and provide a balance to the carrier changes and overall they looks like decent ships but to classify them directly as Tech II doesn't hold much water with me. Its just not a logical enough step imvho.
I will try not to second guess what CCP eventually chose to hit TQ with and try to remember that the only ships originally intended to hit Trinity were the 4 well know new ship classes (EAS, HIC, BO, M) yes they mentioned that a 5th might get included but it wasn't expected to make the Trinity update.
