Edited by: Talinar Aridikron on 19/11/2007 17:40:12 Lil help please. Been playing eve for about a year, with a few months off. (Skills still being trained).
I have a caldari missilier (7mil sp) and a miner to support my pvp losses. Lol.. Although they lessen as I am learning.
If you read the little disclaimer on most game boxes. It addresses those of us with seizures/eplipsy. Fortunatly; mine is a mild version. More of a pain in the ass vs. life altering.
Translation for me means: Any really close in combat.. Ie: Gunfighting and tackling at 15k or less... The lights and intense concentration brings them on..
Hardcore gamer that I am... I play all games and just deal with it.
Distance combat (Missiles) allows me to play without sensory overload. :) Ok, on with my question.
I want to build a solid focused sniper for the ranged combat.
? -Best Race. -Attributes and initial skills. -Ships and weapons within that race. -Skill pathway.
Any constructive comments would be appreciated.

In short: Missiles are not for sniping...

You could always try turning off weapon and turret effects (dont think it turns off missile explosions though).
Second thing possible is to zoom out and use the overview to understand whats going on, how far your enemies are etc etc.
For snipers, The Rokh is an excellent ranged sniper andsince you probably already have some shield skills and perhaps caldari BS skills therefore the Rokh would be good sniper ship.
Do bear in mind that you would experience your problem even if the enemy is using missiles therefore the best bet perhaps would be to zoom out to the max.
Basically all races have good sniper ships and from the limited knowledge I have the caldari rokh has the best range due to bonuses.

Thanx for the suggestions....
For the missle commnent.... I'm not trying to use missiles to snipe with..
I have changed the effects and such to minimize things... It helps greatly. Zoom suggestions work good as well.
However; time seems to be the remaining concern. With distance I have time to evaluate and respond. Playing in close increases the information overload and the "eyetwitch" set's in... Zoom out, turning down effects are great. But playing from a distance helps the most.
Hence; this will be my third account. I would like to make a sniper from scratch. I do not want to change gears on my missilier.
Any more commments from my original questions would be great.
Thanx in advance.

First off, I assume your doctor knows your playing EVE, right? I'd recommend you avoid the new graphics update (even though it looks pretty, the shiny bits may set off your epilepsy).
Secondly, it really depends on what ship you want to use for the sniper role. The Megathron, Rokh, Tempest and Abaddon (in short bursts) works wonders.
I'd recommend the Rokh since it can shoot as far as the grid limit of 250km. Thats a long way away. Half the time as a Rokh sniper is in setting up your sniper point around prospective target zones.
250km on the Rokh (though sensor boost/tracking comps are getting nerfed come Trinity, so expect this number to dwindle) is extreme, compared to the 150-180km tops of the other sniper-fit battleships.
Your missiler can more easily switch to turret sniping if it's the Rokh, all you have to do really is train gunnery. You save both money and time spent in (re)training skills. -

No offense man but you really shouldn't be playing computer games with epilepsy. You're just asking for trouble. Not as much as an ex-pilot I know, but still.
That being said, do what the guys above me have said. Turn off the weapon effects, zoom out as much as you can, and basically play using your overview zoomed out all the way. ...in bed. |

there is a treatment for it involving separating the two halves of the brain... if you have true Epilepsy that is.

Thanx for the comments.
Looks like the Rokh then. Will work my way up the gunnery tree on the caldari side.
As far as the epilespy, thanx for the suggestions. My background is actually medicine. I both work and teach in this field at the college level..
It's well managed with meds and lifetsyle. ( -Gaming ) of course.
I have put all the suggestions to use and am having a better experience. Think this sniper will allow for me to get more immeresed into eve.

Honestly, I recommend zooming out and turning off effects. That's going to do more to reduce the flahes and splashes of combat than your personal weapon systems will.
NPC's fire missiles and guns at you from impossible ranges anyway, so you often see those effects on your ship even if they are miles and miles out of range.
