Some Caldari ships look to be broken and lame winged, why?
Example, the new Caldari Raven, looks to be lame with a gimped wing.
And the Scorpion still looks lopsided.
They should make them look cool like with inverted EVEN wings or something like pushing forward but EVEN.

I actually like the smaller wing on the Raven (if indeed they did shrink it,) as it makes it look less "almost symmetrical" and more "intentionally not symmetrical." |

It's just a part (an irritating one at that) of the Caldari design scheme. They like to engineer their ships for functionality and efficiency over looks. It's just an attitude thing, which I respect, even though most of their ships do look pretty awful as a result.

The biggest change to the Raven in my opinion is the removal of the large control tower from front-right side, this makes it look much better than the old one.

I find the random and sometimes arbitrary asymetry somewhat annoying, but I love the overall feel of Caldari ships so I put up with it.
Some ships, like the merlin, caracal, drake, ferox, rokh, cormorant, etc, are *basically* symetrical and are some of the nicest looking Caldari ships as a result.

Caldari rely on shields, as do on a lesser extent the minnies, so they dont really need uber stable superstructures and symmetry.
Gallente and Amarr on the other hand, are the armor tankers and tankers. They need the long flat surfaces and thick-looking plates. ----------------- Friends Forever

Symetry is good.. Caldari designers are blind.
With that said.. What was really needed for Caldari was to break up the harsh straight lines on their ships such as the Raven. That thing was so boxy...the new look has finally broken up those straight angles and made it look much better...though not as good as it would look if it had 2 full sized wings like a true raven. ------------ This is not War... i Like the assymetry on the caldari ships it makes them look and feel more unique. Altho i still think the t2 Scorpion should have a symmetrical wing... --------------------------- The Cake is a lie... The Cake is a lie... The Cake is a lie... |

i love it when ppl say caldari ships are designed for effeciency and practicality. what in god's name is effecient and practical about ships with haphazard crap coming off of them at all angles? look at modern military aircraft / tanks etc etc, they're built for effeciency yet they look cool.
the caldari art / ship designers just look lazy with the random stuff they throw on these ships.
all that being said, i do like the new raven better then the old. assymetry isn't necessarily bad, just ugly randomness is. ____________________________ the eyes are the groin of the face - dwight shrute |

You can't say their design isn't the most efficient unless you've taken the ships apart and see what goes where, how this part is fueled, that part is closer to the CPU, or whatever. You can't really say they're not the most efficient or most practical unless you know how to actually make them (and I don't mean sticking the BPO and materials in a slot and clicking Deliver when it's done).

Like that guy said, asymmetry is quite good looking if done in good taste. But random ugly spikes != assymetry in good taste. Makes alot of ships look disgusting. --

Those are not wings but magazines for all the missiles big wing is primary small gimped wing secondary missile/hybrid ammo. Or you really believe the load the ammo still shrink wrapped straight from cargo hold :D

I think the Raven would look a lot better and be more popular aesthetically (learn to spell above) if it was more symetrical. The new design is loads better than the last, but I think we were all looking for an even wing span. It's not too late CCP...
Hmm I'd say 95% of the ships out there are symetrical, except the handful of Caldari ships... Raven with 2 wings = win.

the aysmetries are good design (maybe, although clearly no caldari ship was ever meant to hit atmosphere) and with no resistance, there is no point to symetries at all except for aestetic value. Although making every caldari ship have a billion time blinking pointy things sticking out of them is stupid. Judging by the scale a lot of those sensor suites are dozens of meters long.
I guess they're listening to the long-LONG band radio. Actually this IS my main. |

Are you poeple actually argueing over the ugliness of CALDARI ships? Even in trinity the tempest looks like a reject from the Kevin Kostner flick waterworld, or some kind of retarted space-vacuum cleaner sailboat thingy. Duct-tape my sweet patooty. The Minmatar have and always will be the KINGS of hill-billy, shade-tree, engine hanging from the tree in the front yard red-kneckery. (translation : HELL YEAH! were number one in the ugly ships category!)

What the hell is the problem with asymmetry? As long as sufficient thrust is provided where it needs it, then I can't see a problem. Two wings my ass. Small-minded people who need conventional appearances to be happy. There can be true beauty in distortion, and certainly more character than perfection.

Both "Aesthetics" and "Esthetics" are considered acceptable spellings. Check next time before correcting.
Quote: if it was more symetrical.
First of all, "symmetrical".
Sccondly, that's a matter of opinion. Can you back up your opinion with a little more than you simply being used to seeing perfect symmetry and therefore prefering it over assymetrical balance in design?

Its a nerf implimented by ccp to make sure their graviton engines make them go in circles if they dont use 20% of them as a"stabilizer"....seriously.

Don't remember where I saw this, I think it was in someone's sig on the forums, but they said it best. One person designs the left side and one designs the right, and sadly, they never meet. I still like them though, although it would have been cool if the Black Ops scorpion (Widow I think?) had the missing wing.
