I'm a long time MMOer but a very short time Eve player (2 weeks). Is there any way to increase the difficulty of missions? Having done the intro courier and kill missions for about the fifth time, I'm beginning to think that Eve isn't for me. I have to imagine I'm missing something. Any suggestions?

There are different levels of agents. Lvl 1s are usually the ones you get when you're a n00b. There are 4 levels higher than that, each providing an increased difficutly. They get so bad that Level 5 missions can not be run alone, they absolutely have to have a gang of 3-4 Battleships. So yes, there is hope for you. Just look up a Level 2 agent. Also, the higher quality agent you choose, the better rewards there are. "You don't have a soul, you are a soul. You have a body." C.S. Lewis. |

In addition to what the post above said, a lot of players who stick around EVE for the long term do it for reasons that don't involve missions. Often it's PvP, politics, or marketeering. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

In game you can do it through P&P and looking up factions and corporations. Additionally there's a filter in the universe map that let's you see agents available to you. These can be handy, but in the long term I think you'll find using them on their own tedious.
So additionally I recommend looking at resources like
http://www.eve-agents.com/
or
http://eve.grismar.net/explorer/index.php
The former is simple to use, the latter is more complicated but extremely powerful.

I knew I should have added that in the first message... but alas...
This is from memory, seeing that I'm at work and not actually able to go on EvE right now....
Different corporations offer different types of missions. Pretty much you have to decide what type of missions you're wanting to run now. Whether they're Research, Kill, Courier, etc.
Personally, I run missions for the Caldari Navy, as well as 99.98% of other Caldari mission runners. The easiest way to find out which agent is available to you is go to a station that is owned by a particular corporation. You'll notice it'll say "Caldari Navy Assembly Plant" or something like that. Go there, dock, and on the right side click on agents. There you will see a list of the agents and it will show "Agents Available to you" and "Agents not available to you." You'll notice different numbers after the agents.... some lvl 1,2,3,4 or 5... and qualities ranging from -18 to +18. The higher the level, the harder the mission. The higher the quality the greater the reward.
You can also find the location of some agents after you've worked with one corp by searching for the corp, clicking on agents, and then whether you do it for security, command, etc.
As I said... this is all from memory. Feel free anyone to help with this as well. "You don't have a soul, you are a soul. You have a body." C.S. Lewis. |

And while I find missions fun, too, there is so much more to do in Eve than just missions. Keep your eyes and ears open as you go along, think outside the box a little, and you can find Eve to be a very interesting place.

I do want to note ( in case CCP looks at the thread) that I do find the missions extremely boring and repetitive personally. A player has to grind their way through enough level 1 missions, which will repeat on you after 5-6 missions, to get to the level 2 agent, which then...you guessed it, you have to grind your way through to get to level 3. I did get to level 4 missions, which were much more annoying when you factor in dead space in which you have a 120km gap b/w accel gates and your in a slow BS.
I know Trinity is adding some new mission content, but personally I stopped ratting and mission running out of sheer boredom. Im not a big fan of the grind. Exploration sites yield very little for the time invested, which is also supposed to be (fingers crossed) resolved in Trinity but we'll see. Sorry for co-opting the thread, but I thought it might be helpful to hear that yes, missions are repetitive and boring in a lot of cases. I was really hoping for the dynamic mission content to come in, which has been pushed back to 2008 now.

i ground my way to lv 4 missions i hated every second of the lv 1 and 2 missions. i like lv 4 missions and i work for all 4 races to keep my standings good.i am a mission runner first its why i play eve i avoid pvp anytime i can as mostly its a 4 on 1 gank. if u find a buddy or corpmate to let you tag along on a few lv 4 missions u will get a fasst boost to lv2-3 agents.
