Hey folks. I've just started converting my industry alt to pvp, his pvp related skills are poor but we've all gotta start somewhere right? I'm trying to set up a rupture specifically for ganking the many many solo haulers i'm seeing wandering around low sec.
It needs to: survive gate fire, be cheap (once insurance is taken into account), be able to hold and gank a hauler before it can slow-boat to the gate.
Dual 180mm AutoCannon I Dual 180mm AutoCannon I Dual 180mm AutoCannon I Dual 180mm AutoCannon I Assault Missile Launcher I Assault Missile Launcher I
10MN MicroWarpdrive I Stasis Webifier I Warp Scrambler I
Gyrostabilizer I Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane I Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane I 1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Damage Control I
this is what i have so far, the dual 180's are because of the lower PG (don't have AWU yet), it's obviously fairly passive, will this hold up long enough against gate guns? any feedback or alernate suggestions welcome.
(and yes it would probably lose in a small gang fight... so it need to be cheap too )

not looking to perma tank gate guns, just long enough to kill a T1 hauler. however many seconds that would be.

Sentries dashes out about 350 dps. Equal parts Kinetic, thermic and Explosion/EM.
With a plate giving you around 10k hitpoints this means you have about 30-40 seconds to gank the hauler. Tight if you're planing on getting out aswell.
And even if you manage to pop these autopiloting haulers going through lowsec, guess whats in their hold? I'd slowly start dropping those dreams of "xxvbdhist" and "fjsjd3423" dropping you a bunch of t2 bpos.

well i can sit in a station making a living from trading and staring at the station environment as i currently do... or i can go and make pretty explosions, and hopefully teach a few people that solo hauling in low sec could be considered a bit silly (and still make my living from trading whilst doing it).
simple choice really.

Well, if you manage to convince a whole shop that hauling isn't a good business, I'll be impressed, I'll even donate iskies to the cause, and I doubt I'm the only one.
And you must be the only capitalist around that consider accepting another unprofitable expense a nobrainer =)

surely i can't be the only trader in eve that thinks having fun is more important than piling up ISK and doing nothing with it ( ) i've already gone for a T1 fit as a concession to my bean counting ways, can't fit t2 but could fit the majority as faction gear from my inventory (though it'd be a tad heavy on smartbombs )
people are so resist to 'non optimal' things in games, it's sad to see... but yes, i know i'm not gonna earn mega ultra uber wealth, or cleanse the entire universe of haulers. it's just a small challenge i wanted to set myself :)

What I've been trying to point out is that 95% of the haulers autopiloted throuhg lowsec, are flown by 5% of the pilots in lowsec. If you pop 50 haulers for him, yeah, you might've hurt his daily income - that day. Then again, you have to kill 50 haulers for every single one of the shops using this method.
Seperate the concepts of pilot and player. And I'm all for you making a few players change their minds about this way of gaming, however if you're after my honest guess, I think you will be quite tired after losing your tenth rupture, gaining a handful of construction blocks and inflicting unnoticable damage to the _player_. You would however have done a good deed and the communit can praise you.
The risk of making what I would call a legit pilot miserable is next to none, if thats not the thrill you're seeking, good for you.

while i appreciate the mildly condescending little lecture ( ), i'm not a greenhorn rookie with shiny eyes and mmmm m magical dreams, i'm just looking for sh!ts and giggles with an alt using a race i've never pvp'd with before. so quit trying to convince me i don't want to shoot haulers and help me with my setup

that setup should get you through alright. a buddy of mine has ganked a few haulers in a Stabber with less tank. Doesn't take very much 99% of the time to pop one of them.
guns dish out 171.1 dps btw, not 350. 350 is their volley damage per gun, well, somewhere around there. They favor Kin/Therm I believe, don't remember if that's what you said, but yeah, damage ratio is 1/2/2/1 Pretty sure it's EM/Exp that are the weaker of the two.
Either way, a cheap Ruppy could easily pop a hauler and get away.

Edited by: Feyran Loa''thin on 21/11/2007 07:14:23 yah, decided to try it anyway and got 2 hauler kills straight away my problem being without a rep fitted, and being low low low in armor... i can't repair until the "naughty criminal" timer runs out, nor dock to refit and add a repair mod :( .... 15 mins between kills sucks a bit.
but atm i've got none of the armor resistnace skills trained up, so once they're trained should be ok without the DCU and with a rep instead?
anyway "weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee*hauler splat!*eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!". something to do isn't it?

armor/shield resistance compensation skills are ONLY useful if you run passive modules. They do absolutely nil for any active modules you have.
active module hardeners still give you more protection, at an almost negligible amount of cap usage. btw if you are going to flame me on this point, be ready to be proven wrong with the power of math. Just felt like throwing that in there, heh... i'm bored

Let me pull a set up from memory, granted it'll be a little off, and more fit like my Cane, which I fly a lot more.
4x 180mm AC's (bigger if you can fit) 2x Assault Missile launcher
10mn MWD 1x Warp Scram 1x Medium Cap Booster (400's should work)
3x Hardeners (active) Explosive Kinetic Thermal 1x Medium Armor Repairer 1x Plate (as big as you can fit)
This takes a little bit more skills than your previous fit, I think, but nothing too drastic. My gate camping Hurricane has a pretty similar set up, and can last ages. Granted the Rupture wont be able to marathon at a gate by any means, but should give you ample time to take out 1 or 2 haulers in comfort. I find very little need for a web at a gate for hauler popping, and you'll likely be running away from anything bigger than a Frigate anyways.
