Making budgets is a big part of what I do in RL, and often the way projects are financed is just a matter of perspective.
If it is difficult for CCP to finance Eve TV as a community relations project, how about as a Marketing project? Surely, not only does it attract new players, but it keeps the ones playing subscribed.
And we all know that the Marketing budget is way more solid than any community or socializing ones.
Treating Eve TV as a separate entity from the game that has it's own P&L is a mistake, IMHO.
Or am I off the mark?

You are indeed way off the mark.
CCP dont own or run EVETV so it really is a seperate entity not simply being treated as one. ...in accordance with the prophecy |

If you still had to pay, then most people just wouldn't pay, and the viewing figures would sink like a stone.

Frankly, what should happen now is occasional one-off paid shows. Maybe a christmas special if there is time.
The reason nobody wanted to pay for EveTV is that nobody knew what it would be. Everyone pictured a group of sweaty geeks giggling around a table and eating pringles. Thanks to the free period that mental image has been replaced with StevieSG in a crown, speaking frankly about the size of her knockers while trying not to slouch, Benilopax inviting viewers to sit on his face and something about internet spaceships.
Now is the time for people to want to pay actual earth money. Maybe not weekly or per-view but I would bet 100M internet spaceship kredits that a christmas special could turn a profit. The brand is established.

EVE TV is so much better free, but if they need the money a nice big "Donate" button would be cool if 2% of viewers donated ú1 i its a damn lot of money and people do donate.

Be nice if CCP spent the money on EVETV, instead of the stupid "walking around station" crap.

Really? Then they should. Eve Voice always belonged integrated to the product, it just took them time to realize it.
Same with Eve TV, tbh, since the community and social aspect are such an integral part of the game.

"a group of sweaty geeks giggling around a table and eating pringles." This format may have actually been better than the one EVE TV implemented...... just sayin

Well eve-voice (assuming everybody use it, will create a lot of Traffic wich cost money.
But according to the Fanfest Eve voice is now free of charge.
Back to Topic:
I think it will be not the problem to support Eve.tv from CCP's budget, but the question is if it should be?
When Money flows from ccp to eve.tv then the question is how independet can eve.tv be? with a seperate founding its easyer to stay a little more "independent"
Just my 2 cents

Howdy,
I did see and Ad for eve in PC world web site(UK PC shop chain). How is the funding and marketing budget done, I will now explain.
For those that work for companies funded by VC's Like Golden Gate and other VC companies, when you get the funding and they hand over the big bag of cash the 1st thing you do is give yourself a pay rise :O) then after that you look for ways to invest it in the company.
Eg. Lunch time meetings off site to discuss the walk around station thing. Off site meeting as need to go to spear mint rhino's Etc.
More lunch time meetings inc trips overseas to think of the name. Which defines how they were on that day. Amble meaning to stumble along hence "Ampulation"
SO then we have EvE TV, is it a cunning marketing ploy to see the interest from the forum on the yay EvE tv gone or Boo EvE TV gone in order to gauge the booze cruse funding needed next year. I mean you should see the riders these chaps have to get to do the show. Spirel Monkey once asked if "The Monkeys" could be bought back, still not as bad at some Rock bands (Who could forget the "No Snow No Show")
Ok so they spend their VC slosh fund, champange in the water coolers Etc Flying the whole firm to Rio for Christmas ( Thx ISD for covering :o)Then just as the funding runs out they quickly before April, think damn we need some more money. Back to the VC's for more bags of cash and suddenly hey presto EvE tv Returns thus allowing many trips to and from the UK, USA to fly players about for the show while upper management get free trips for their families on the back and then they can write the cost & TAX off as a "Business trip"
So there you have it thats how the funding works as long as upper CCP can continue to obtain cash and I am sure they do a good show to get it & EvE TV will be back.

I've brought 5 players into EVE in the last 6 months. Every one of them I got interested by sending them to www.eve-online.com/evetv.
They started playing after that--EVE Online's biggest attraction is the community and persistancy of the world. EVE TV shows that to other people. Now if EVE TV was responsible for attracting 5 new subscriptions from people *I* know, how many more people started playing after seeing EVE TV and recognizing the massive community?
Just something to consider. I don't know the costs involved, but while the Alter-Ego campaign was neat--I guarantee you that a clicky add leading to EVE-TV would GET CLICKED, watched, and a lot of people would be like... Wow, how do I become a part of this!? Thaddeus |

I know this is waay late, but. It wasn't that Eve-Tv wasn't free that I hated about it. It was the whole messed up points/micropayment nature of how we payed for it. I wouldn't mind having a few bucks added to my monthly Eve bill for Eve-TV(like Eve-Voice was), I wouldn't mind buying it from I-tunes for a flat fee. But, i had to subscribe to a service I would never ever in a million years use for anything but Eve-TV, and all the other hoopla that goes with it. It had nothing to do with paying for it, and everything to do with ease of use. It was simply for lack of a better phrase.. a pain in the ass, for something that should have been very straight forward and simple. Also btw.. I hated the format of the show. The informational segments were normally okay, especially the market segment. The rest.. if I want to see stilted wooden unemotional actors try to entertain me, I'd go see a pretentious art house flick. At least then I could say they were actually trying to achieve some sort of point with their bad acting. Instead of trying to entertain me with a joke that might have actually been funny if anyone but Spiral Junky could have shown some real animation, and even he lacked anything approaching real charisma.

For me, I paid for it. I watched every episode. I DID see the adds, but they were always the same damned on.
Me, I liked the info bit. Spotlights on Players, Corps, alliance's, tournaments, even the "news" which was always out dated, I sometimes got info that I'd missed on the forums.
The Biggest problem for me, was the the delivery of the content from the presenters. Spiral trying to be the straight faced Anchorman. It just didn't fly.
And the damned segments on fanfests and ****. Ohh.. look. drunk people.. yeah, lets PAY to watch drunk people. No thanks.
I want news, reports, stats, updates, and details. Not Fluff. If I want fluff interviews on drunk people, i'll take my 5$ and go to the local bar/pub.
Bring Eve TV Back.
I pay for 4 accounts, I pay for EON, and I paid for EVE TV. That's a LOT of money from one person. SOME of it can go to fund a little news show on EVE.
