Here's an idea, lets say someone has a stupid name they don't want.
what can they do?
we'll we can't be letting people running around(even if only once) and changing their name, as this would lead to people escaping politics and such.
However, why can't we get a new name? not change the old one mind you, but get a new one.
This idea would only be fair if we all got a new name.
or it could work with it as a one time paid service I guess.
I'm talking about having a real name and an shown name?
so anyone checking your profile sees that you are so and so even if your new name is something different.
this means you can'r change your name to get away just change it to look cooler at a glance.
so you could be...

Mostly I just want to be able to change my name so that I'm not perpetually at the top of the 'primary' list. Obviously you can work with it, but having a name in the middle of the alphabet would really be so, so much better. Callsign would be an interesting compromise if that is what shows up in the overview. For the longest time I've wished they would change the 'name' column to 'ship name' due to my unfortunate circumstance.

/Signed. But, if that can happen, we'll have 5,000 guys named OOZBlah running around. Not sure there is a good solution, but would prefer some other poor soul to be at the top for a while at any rate. :)

Is there a problem with beeing on the top of the alphabet? 
I never had problems with that 
But I would also like to change the name of some of my alts, because they are related to my main character and that was actually not such a good idea...
But there should be a limitation like changing max every 6 month, otherwise the bad guys would use this to be more anonymous...

You get called primary a lot early in battles, and/or people who can't find the primary settle on sorting the overview by name and just starting at the top of the list because it is easy.
But yes, there would need to be limits on frequency. It could get out of hand if there wasn't something like that.
