I know that the Ares is the faster of the two Gallente ceptors, but other than that, is there anything it to do that the Taranis can't? Taranis out-damages and out-tackles it, and the fact that the Areas forces you to split damage between 2 missiles and 2 turrets severely hampers it from what I've seen. I will be completing Inty training in a few days and am wondering, should I just get a Taranis without thinking twice or should I, for some reason, consider getting an Ares instead?

The Ares is currently a glorified shuttle but it's getting a healthy, long-overdue revamp in the upcoming Trinity patch. Notably an extra med slot and a bonus to the cap consumption of propulsion jamming modules. I think it's losing a high slot as well but can't remember for sure, and that's not really an issue anyway. It looks like it's about to become the great tackler it should have been. --- High quality pics of most EVE ships! |

Edited by: Sean Faust on 23/11/2007 18:01:41 Wow . . with all these changes to the Ares is the Taranis getting left alone or is it also getting changed? It would only make sense that it would lose a mid slot if the Ares is gaining one since every race has a 2 slotter and a 3/4 slotter inty. Also, is the Ares going to retain its missile damage bonus? Or will it go strictly turret? Or maybe strictly missile and be an armor tanking crow? I would like to see its missiles taken away and see its missile bonus replaced by a tracking speed bonus, being able to take out other inties.

all inties get a -80% cap usage for propulsion jamming modules role bonus.
the tackling inties however, get one of their inty bonuses changed for a propulsion jamming range bonus ---

both interceptors will get the power cost reduction to propulsion jamming modules, its just that the Ares gets a range bonus aswell. The Taranis will still be able to do far more DPS than its counterpart. So both will still have their uses, its just that the Ares will be a better tackler.
All interceptor pairs of all 4 races are being changed like that btw, so both get a power cost reduction bonus and the "weaker" inty gets an extra tackle bonus.

The ares definitely got the biggest change in rev 3. Going from a terrible setup that no one uses to arguably the best fleet tackler.

I like flying the ares a lot , cheap super fast speed , and fun to pirate with. Then again , I killed people with my helios.
The interceptor buff will open a lot of new roles for it. Less dps , but it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.
