Hi,
I am currently involved in creating a browser based MMORPG, called Curse of Backdraft.
If people would like to join and help us test and also develop the game, please visit us at www.curseofbackdraft.com
It is a browser game where you get turns and movement points to interact with monsters and also other players.
An overview:
Curse of Backdraft (COBD), is a Massively Multiplayer Online RPG set in a medieval environment.
The first step is the creation of the character you will embody throughout the game (you will be able to play one character per server). During this creation, there are choices you will have to make: will you create a powerful Barbarian, a nimble priest, or a clever Mage? Is your character a good leader, or does he spends all his time studying the arcanes in the light of a dimly lit candle? Such choices will influence strongly what you will be able to do in the game, your failures and successes, thus they are crucial. Once your character has been created, you can start playing the game, and make the choices you are faced to. For example, you can choose to explore the land, make your character evolve (leveling up, training skills, gearing up) and hunt your enemies.
Curse of Backdraft is a game that can be played only a few minutes par day, by spending turns performing actions such as training your skills. If you wish to spend more time, you can explore the land and hunt your enemies. In all cases, be careful before you disconnect, you'd better prepare a good defense and give clever orders, because some foe could attack you while you are off- line!
Player vs Player (PvP) actions are fully allowed in the game. This means you can attack, kill and loot your enemies, but this also means they will do the same to you! Playing Curse of Backdraft requires some good surviving skills. Having many friends is one of them. Probably the best advice we can give is 'united we stand tall, divided we fall'.
Any feedback or participation would be fantastic! |

First impressions just from the website:
- game concept in the guide needs more explanation of what the game is about rather than what your first steps are - game history, if you do use a history make it one that digs a little deeper other than "there be dragons". If your lore is still being worked on then you're better off stating exactly that than coming up with something too simplistic, too short and obviously rushed - on account terms of use: "Your Information are protected" are? - your forums need some graphics going even though this is very early alpha, AS you make this alpha public you're essentially already "selling" the product, as such you need to liven it up a bit. It doesn't take much but the simple basic theme is a bit meh. Putting in effort into "selling" your product shows the potential customer that you are fully committed to it, i know it sounds shallow but that's how it works
- while registering you should indicate that the "recruited by" field is optional, while obvious it does help - after account creation it continues to the login screen where it already filled out the account name with... the email adress, which it shouldn't
- race explanations typo (bolded): Imp - Without doubts the smallest of all races - there's a ton of comma's in the racial explanation text that really shouldn't be there (I should know, I'm guilty of that myself :P)
- weapons point allocation without further explanation needs some more effort, new players are clueless as to what it does, which classes use what weapons and how this affects our character (if at all) - character names have to be one full name instead of being able to have a surname. many games do this but it's very annoying and it also means that at some point people will have to start choosing silly names.
- tutorial 1: first visit. "The small button after Money leads you to the Game Options", should read "The small button next to help leads you to Game Options". Also, that game options button needs a mouse over info that it is indeed the option button
Now I'll be off digging some more into it :)
- edit -
BIG GRIPE:
If you want us to test your alpha you shouldn't ask us to pay (with real cash) for ingame items, partly because it makes you look like a @#$# and mostly because it means we won't bother trying any of it. If any, give us a limited amount of coins per day to toy with. Asking for RL payment leads us to believe that your "alpha" isn't alpha at all but a released product (other companies try this same trick and it pisses ppl off) and then assess your early game as a fully released product, which it won't survive, and we'll just forget about your game. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right.

Thanks for the feedback, changed the topic title so is a little more suited. We are close to an open Beta Stage, all that remains of the Alpha Stage is the creation of an Auction House and a little more tuning to some of the skills.
I'll look into changing some of the spelling, then also the comments. (One of our developers is French, so his English needs a little work :P) |

It sounds interesting, but you should put some kind of gimmick in the story (like what they did for the [REDACTED] books). Also, do you think you could contact CCP or some other company for some assistance? This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine. |

Also, if I remember correctly, trolls are silicon-based lifeforms. They have no skeleton, no muscles, no organs, nothing. They are just rocks, that's it. Their brain is just a huge deposit of impure silicon inside their head.
And of course, since their brains are just silicon, that means that in higher temperatures, they are dumber and more aggressive, while in lower temperatures, they are much smarter and less of mindless killing machines. Looks goods offhand, but really ... it's just another rehashing of the mage, paladin etc etc etc etc common in fantasy. There is nothing unique that's worthwhile.
Old guys who's been around since the telnet days of MUD/MUSH/MUSE (circa 1995-2000) would probably agree that they had a lot more different flavour back then. One old MUD I used to play fondly was VikingMUD .... holy crap .. they're still alive!!!?? (http://www.vikingmud.org/) ..... anyway ... see the difference there?
Guilds. Different guilds have different unique abilities (I was Frost Guild member) . When you take this base concept, the possibilities are nearly endless. You don't have to compete directly with the current/next MMO that puts up mage, paladin ,etc etc etc. The core concept needs to be different enough, unique enough.
To see them preserve VikingMUD all these years is probably a testament that it was one of the best MUD during its days. Will yours last that long?

That is a fair comment, will take that on board.
At the moment, my fingers are getting a little raw with the coding, but I have had a brief look at VikingMUD and do like some of the stuff!
Key things at the moment we are developing are, ironing out a lot of the bugs and trying to improve the User Experience.
Once these steps have been done, it will be back on the case with features!
Dungeons are the next thing, we just finished some of the basic faction stuff. |

Currently working on Roleplay features now, so you can build up the history of your character and everyone can read your story. |
