Anyone else think it would be a nice idea if there was a small skill point gain by playing as well as the current system? like you still gain the same skill points over time, I mean the current system is cool and all, but what about also giving people more skill points for things like Destroying ships/completing missions and just have like 10+ skill points based on what kind of ship you Destroy added to whatever skill your currently learning and maybe like 100 or more for completing a mission, with the increase based on the level of mission added onto you current skill as well. The learning over time can stay, but it would be nice to get an increase for playing more, even mining perhaps could give a skill point bonus every cycle on your lasers calculated by how much you mined and perhaps what you mined. Anybody have any comments? like this idea? don't like this idea? better ideas? |

Short Form (The one you will get multiple times): No!
The long Form: I like it how eve doesnt force you to keep playing to increase skills. I can take a week, even a month off and I will still get the same Skillpoints as everyone else. (Except remapping and Implants). Most other MMOs force you to play, else your buddies will to content you cannot touch and you stay alone. |

I'm just saying that it might be nice to add a "slight" bonus for playing, I still think they should keep the current system and not slow it down or anything I just think there should be some extra gain for in game activities, but I understand your point as some people can't play as much as others, but that's why I believe these extra points be merely added while keeping the learning over time as well. |

I could see the benefit to this. Give an added incentive for players to log in the game and thus, maybe give a small bump to people actually playing the game or at least being interactive with other players in some way On holiday. -áIn some other world. It would just turn into a grind, players would think they 'have to' do a certain amount to 'keep up'. That's not fun. |

That feature did actually exist during the first few months after the game's release in 2003. It was exploited, so removed from the game. |

A skill system based on the very specific premise that you VERY SPECIFICALLY DO NOT (caps lock cuz cool) have to grind skills simply requires a method to grind skills otherwise it is bad.

NO!
THIS IS NOT [other mmo name here] WHERE YOU CAN GRIND YOUR CHARACTER BY HAVING NO LIFE.
Develop actual skill so that you don't have to rely on SP and paper stats as much. My low SP toon gets all sorts of kills in gangs and solo because I rely heavily on skill. My KB ratio sucks cus I derp hard.
Seriously though, if this happens, I will unsub my accounts permanently. I scam on my main |

I doubt CCP would entertain this idea as it would increase their cost.
More players online = more hardware usage = increased maintenance cost = etc.
Though if they gave subscription players an advantage over GTC/PLEX players... |

At their end they are the same thing. Every GTC/PLEX is paid for. Just because you bought it with isk doesn't mean CCP didnt get their 15-20 bucks for it. |

Actually, I would think CCP would prefer PLEX playersif anything; IIRC PLEX cost $20 to buy, rather than $15 for a month of subscription. |

Yeah, but basic finance is hard, let alone economics. It's so much easier just to spout random crap in support of totally unrelated points.
(For anyone keeping score, this is also why the NEX store works the way it does. PLEX purchase is actually better for CCP than any other income stream. Not that this has anything to do with the original point of the thread.) |

Used to work this way back in early 2003. I actually trained hull upgrades to 4 by doing this, among a few other skills to 2 or 3. Fear my free skillpoints? |

EVE's "leveling" system is its second biggest strength imo (first is flying ships in space), and I really would not want it changed.
I could see how a new player would feel frustrated with the system however. They are excited about the game and want to play, but it feels like such a long time before they can fly a good ship well. EVEMon (or your own calculations) will mock you and point out just how long you will have to wait for that ship you want to fly and those modules you want to fit.
It definitely gets easier to find patience once you hit 20 million skill points though, after about a year or so (assuming you've been fairly focused in your training). By 40m SPs you will almost certainly appreciate the lack of grind, even with the leisurely pace of advancement. By that point you are filling in some of the hard to reach corners of your skill sheet, or branching out and becoming more versatile. |

I would rather not. If you want to play a game where you get bonus for doing same thing over and over again there is already plenty of these around. EVE is different and gaining skills by "grinding stuff" goes directly against EVE skill training philosophy.
This is not a good idea.
The extra gain you get from doing stuff is real life experience on the subject and in some cases ISK. The SP does not substitute the RL experience in EVE. You can be at 120 mil SP with all lev 5 skills for the ship you fly and some 20 mil SP guy with mix of lev 4's and lev 5's will spank you hard if you dont know how to fly the ship you are sitting in. |

CCP gets there money whether you log in or not as long as you account is active.
Adding something like this would only encourage even more players to use bot programs to AFK play just to increase there SP gain.
Generally when I am online there are upwards of 40,000 accounts logged in. If this was added we would have the same number of players actually playing but way more afk and botters adding load to the servers just to increase there skill gains a couple %. absolutely not worth it from where I sit. |

This is a good idea i think. BUT there have to be a limit to how many points you can get each day. Kind of like daily quests in other mmos, and this would be the same. You do quests, and get X amount of skill points up to a a certain amount each day. Unlimited points each day for quests would be bad indeed! |
