After using the FXAA Injector for Skyrim and Battlefield 3, I wanted to know how legal it was to use it with EVE Online. My petition response stated that it would not conflict with the EULA if the only benefits gained were graphical.
Excellent.
Using the default project files, found here, I first learned that it needed to be installed to both the EVE folder and the EVE\bin folder. I assume this is because eve.exe is used to launch ExeFile.exe as when the injector is installed to just EVE there is no change and when installed to just EVE\bin the game refuses to load. Hopefully someone can figure this out, or I'm sure given enough time I'll discovery why on my own.
Nearly everything works. I can say that much right off the bat. Sepia, sharpening, HDR, color adjustment, contrast adjustment, and so forth. Strangely, no matter the settings, I can not get the FX Anti Aliasing to work. This is something I can not for the life of me figure out and would welcome any help on discovering the reason and reaching a solution.
Mind you, the default settings look horrible for a space-based game and it will need to undergo configuration adjustments to improve the effect beyond SATURATE ALL THE THINGS. Below is an image gallery comparing normal EVE to the default FXAA Injector settings (minus the sharpening effect):

As I said, there are a lot of tweaks that will be needed to give it a more natural and balanced color and lighting improvement, but that's something that can be worked on over time.
Devs and GMs: If the petition answer I received from a GM ends up being overturned and the FXAA Injector is something you do not want us to use, please let me know so that I can stop using it immediately and then notify others of in this post. I'm only engaging with this on the understanding that I'm within the EULA. |

there should be more DEV and GM input on this thread, so that everything gets cleared out.

Eve needs more sepia.
There was someone else who asked about the legality of this before. The answer was:
CCP Nullarbor wrote:Xenuria wrote:If I use the FXAA Post Process Injector to enhance the graphical appeal of eve will I get banned? Is this a violation of the EULA? An Official Response From CCPDude... your face? (If this answer is not satisfactory you probably need to file a petition)

I have no idea about why this should work in any program anyway ...
Just copy it into the folder and that's it ? How does that make sense, except that it doesn't ?
Any good introduction somewhere? When i'm searching, i only find links to FXAA and BF3...
Edit: nevermind, i'm on it ... Inappropriate signature removed. Spitfire |

Oh also it apparently might be bannable (if that player is to be trusted) but you should petition anyway for confirmation. |

Any good introduction somewhere? When i'm searching, i only find links to FXAA and BF3... In simplest terms, a DirectX game looks for d3d9.dll (for DirectX 9). C, the programming language, looks for libraries within the current folder before expanding outwards. By placing d3d9.dll-named in the EVE folder, it will load that one first before loading your system's d3d9.dll right behind it. In this case, the custom d3d9 we have loads and applies certain DirectX effects in memory and then says "alright, load the normal system d3d9 next".

IMO, if it were called a "shell" or "wrapper" there wouldn't likely be any concern over the banhammer, the fact that it's called an INJECTOR conjures up exploit concerns (SQL Injection, Python Injection, etc). Please support: export of settings in editable format

ah.
hm ... the heavy use of overlays may have something to do with it ?
As it's AA per shader, i guess it does not have anything to do with the weird behavior EvE shows when activating AA, then ...
Like ... i've noticed, whenever i turn AA on in my gfx-driver, but not in the escape menu, it does not work. No idea why.

I just made a thread similar to this myself about using injectSMAA in eve. Gonna try your method of putting the files in both folders and see what works out. |

I haven't tried FXAA, but with the little bit of smaa experimenting I've done, with everything set to High in game, the effect is barely noticible. I mean, you have to be REALLY looking for it to see it. Kinda disappointing. There's a lot of crawling I'd like to get rid of XD |
