Edited by: Wither Blade on 28/11/2007 20:04:51 Would there be any point in my training missile skills? I like them alot more than hybrid turrets. I'm currently training gunnery to level 5, so I can get large hybrid turrets. I have 1.3m SP in total, and I'm flying a Vexor, though I can fly a Myrmidon, just don't have the cash for it. I know the Caldari are the missile race but I don't really want to waste time making another character, as I already remade my first one, unless it's really only the best way. I'm a Gallente > Intaki > Military > Reborn > Special Forces aswell if that helps, so I've got a head start with lots of drone skills. Tell me if there's any information I've missed out that you might need to help answer. Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about using launchers on gallante ships or cross training to Caldari? Is this for PvP or PvE?
Caldari charadcters don't get any missile bonuses, only their ships - which you can train as easily as those of any other race.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

Edited by: Missar Teg on 28/11/2007 20:34:47 Well at the moment I'm doing missions, I'm too scared to do PvP =P I'm not sure whether or not I should cross train, because the Caldari ships are the ones with the most missile launchers on them, but have little drone space. I've been trying to find a Gallente ship with 4 launchers that don't require ALOT of skills, but they just don't exist. Would cross training be best for me?
*edit* whoops forgot to change character ;P

You can train any race's ship and any weapon type with any character you make.

As far as PvE is concerned, missiles are very SP-efficient. You can get a lot of power for very few SP. for PvP turrets are generally superior. Most gallante ships are poorly adapted to using missiles.

Is there something I am doing wrong? When I had a myrmidon (before I blew it up) I had 4 dual 150mm railguns t1, anti matter charges M in them. And IF I hit, I did about 15 damage, whilst I was taking in the region of 60-100 per shot. And that was in level 1 missions.

Gallente are really the only race that use almost no missiles. Caldari use lots of missiles (and their larger ships have some drones, but aren't drone-centric in any way). Amarr have a few ships that specialize in missiles, and a few ships that specialize in drones, but none that really do both. Minmatar have a number of ships that have a few missile hardpoints and/or some drones, but none of their ships really specialize in either.

You were shooting frigates with cruiser sized rails, that was what was wrong.

The only Gallente 2 gallente ships that use missiles in any real way are the Nemesis stealth bomber, and the Lachesis Recon ship (and the Arazu to lesser extent). Both are T2 and neither are any good at missions. But like others have said you can cross train to other ships/races. To answer the question: "Is there any sense training missiles if I only want to fly Gallente ships?" I would say "No"

Don't want to hi-jack OP's thread, but as someelse stated above Dual 150mm rails are cruiser sized guns trying to shoot frigates. Several other things to notice: Antimatter ammmo is very short range, so you're trying to shoot fast moving, small ships as they orbit very closely with large-ish, slow-ish guns. Check out the Player Guide on turrets/tracking if you haven't before and it will all make sense.

First of all. Missile skills for PVE only make sense if you're flying caldari ships.
As a gallente, what you need is Drones V (immediately!) and then Drone Interfacing to lvl 4. Those two skills alone will make your primary PVE weapon (drones) very formidable. Use your drones!
A myrmidon isnt really designed to deal damage with its guns. While fitting guns would somewhat complement its arsenal, its main damage is supposed to come off it's drones. ----

When I created my character I went to special forces, as this came with ALOT of drone skills. Drones V Drone Navigation V Scout drones IV and so on. I've got around 700k sp in Drones in total, I'll be training to use sentry drones, but I don't know if I should bother training to Fighter drones, or Tech II Drones. Perhaps a re-make is in order =/

Dual-150mm rails are...by a wide margin...the worst weapons in the entire game.
Yes, that includes lasers. Dual-150s are horrificly bad. You do a lot more damage with regular 150s, particularly on the Myrm, since you're not giving up any damage bonus.

Fighters are only for carriers, so don't worry about them any time soon.
Drones are really your primary long-range armament for Gallente ships. Some Gallente ships have missiles, but the only one that's really missile heavy that I can think of is the stealth bomber, but that takes a while to be able to fly.
If you really want to use missiles as a Gallente character, cross-training into Caldari ships is the way to go.
Or I guess you could just remake as a Caldari character.

no i think caldari was right. missiles do more dmg and all you need to do is press f1 f2 f3 ... then fly around. minmatar actually have to do things to get any dmg near what missles do let alone do more.

I know a few Gallente only pilots who have trained the missile skills.
Ships like the Ares and Lachesis (and of course the stealth bomber) use them or at least do until wednesday.
