Edited by: OldWolfe on 28/11/2007 20:43:06 Upon eagerly logging onto the forum the day the new skins came out on SiSi, I along with the rest of us, with an EVE-style Merry Christmas excitement, jumped around forum/SiSi doing our best to keep an eye out for our favorite ships we fly. There is a lot of proclaims of "Oh my gawd! Cooool!" exclamations and some dumbfound "what the fu-..." utterance when us players placed our eyes upon the new ships' skins and graphic makeovers.
Pretty soon, it became quite clear that Gallente stood out as the most clashing of all changes to the themes of EVE-online by having what everyone now calls the "baby blue" colors. Not only the baby blue colors those several main Gallente ships now have, so has some weak colors graced the other ships such as the Astarte (which is a command ship now with no strong commanding appearance) or the "tampon" ship (cov op ship? Forgive me, I forgot the name), or such along the line of the clashing with the theme EVE-online was designed to carry.
As I told Tarmic:
Quote: ...as far as players are concerned when playing any internet online games, graphics are one of the main reasons why we play. Theres a very good reason why bright kid colors aren't on games like EVE-online, simply because it doesn't at all match the theme EVE carries. And if it doesn't promote the theme EVE-online is build around, then the color can just as effectively throw off the gameplay as equally as any graphic glitches or programming errors, etc.
Sure, the Gallente are a "French" race that follows certain colors and blue in general is one of my favorite colors. However, it's one thing to have a French themed color for the Gallente race, it's quite something else to have a color that is quickly looked upon as baby blue (if not Disneyland-ish) that is clashing with the feeling of the overall EVE-online themes.
The French colors doesn't have to be gritty per se, but it should honor the EVE-online's tradition of the galaxy out there being unforgiving by carrying colors that reflects such sentiments upon the game and upon the players.
If nothing else, just make the colors overall a bit darker as one possible solution.
In the end, hopefully the voice of the EVE players can give CCP some insights into our honest reactions.
To change or not to change the Baby Blue:
To change: Say Aye
To not change: Say Nay
I of course say Aye

Might be the "fourth" thread, but not many of them were constructive with logic and real insights into the why it shouldn't have those colors. I merely put a voice out regarding those colors.

Edited by: Cadiz on 28/11/2007 20:43:17 Not really thrilled with the new Gallente t1 colour scheme, I have to say. It just seems so...fluffy. Childlike. Not "iron fist in a velvet glove" which always seemed typically Gallente to me, except possibly the Megathron which seems more grey and muted than the rest of the lineup and looks the better for it. ------ Director, No Quarter "There is no problem that cannot be solved by the judicious application of violence." |

Thats exactly what Gallente represents and clearly the colors doesn't follow such characterization the Gallente are known for.

All in all, I think it comes down to matter of opinion and personal preference. Obviously someone(s) at the HQ decided they liked this color layout, and ran with it.
Apparently, not all of you agree, and while that is truly a shame, I see no reason why they should change it to suit the dissidents. I would be rather sad to see the colors go.
And as far as smacktalk goes, how can people smack a ship they just died to?

As punishment for the influx of forum stupidity surrounding the Gallente color scheme change all Gallente ships should be made pink until morale improves and subscriptions increase.

Exactly.
New colours perfectly represent the whole "iron fist in a velvet glove" to me. Pretty exterior but they still pack a much greater punch than any other in EVE when it comes to PVP.

Thanks. I agree, all the T1 ships look horrible. Looks like they were designed by an ungodly hybrid of Gene Rodenberry and Mattel.
EDIT: For the record, the colour schemes for most of the T2 variants are pretty sexy though. Its just that bizarre pale-grey/pastel blue combo. The Dominix looks even fuglier in the new colours than it does now- and that is a true achievement. ------

It's like getting your ass kicked by a fat girl. It's embarrassing, you don't want to admit it, and sure, the heifer's ugleh, but you can't exactly salvage any pride because in the end, you got your ass kicked by a girl. Fat (or blue) or not.
If that makes any sense.

I think the 0.000001% of eve players who keep posting threads about this should be banned. *shesh*
Just because this color has some meaning the whining players culture that does not mesh with the whining players view of what Gallente are does not mean all of EVE should change to settle these 0.00001% of players.
I think they look great. But as I stated it another thread, its frikin internet spaceships not your first born. Grow up!

Clearly you dont broaden your perspective much. Here, let me help you out:
More insights into why Baby Blue just doesn't work
And also my thoughts for Tarminic in another thread:
Quote: as far as players are concerned when playing any internet online games, graphics are one of the main reasons why we play. Theres a very good reason why bright kid colors aren't on games like EVE-online, simply because it doesn't at all match the theme EVE carries. And my original post has a lot of valid constructive thoughts and logics behind it.
As far as I'm concerned, you're merely complaining about our constructive criticism and what not. Has nothing to do with "whining" (since that term seems to be the only term a lot of the players knows how to use and not much skills into dealing back equal constructive criticism. A shame, really).
