The sooner we accept our predatory nature, the sooner we can move on and develop into something greater. Just my 2 cents. Just think of how bad an average post by me is, and then realize half of them are even worse

I pointed this out in an anthropology class once and got the stare of death from the airy fairy planet nice folks. Read up on the american tribes. They certainly didnt live in "harmony" with nature. They slaughtered their way down through the americas to the tip of argentina and pretty much wiped out everything that got in their path. Including a marsupial lion. By no means am I saying Humanity is perfect or that we are individually all worthwhile. When I learned about the geometry of spheres, I thought that was an analogy for humanity. The Volume of the sphere growing, being the bulk of humanity and the surface being the bit that was building up the foundations of Humanity, managing the economy, cracking new technologies and being an unconquerable force on the world. In time we might become peaceful, and have plenty for all, but till that time comes Humanity will be true to its nature, desire more, and fight on a scale no other being is capable of to rise above all challenges. Poverty is going down, birth rates stabilising and death rates decreasing across the board. MAD ended the Cold War amicably and we dodged WW3. I wouldn't say, look at Syria and want to throw magic dust over it to fix it, more likely the Russians are in the right position to take out the Islamists. Monsters go bump in the night, but my perspective would be to have the foresight and capabilities to take care of it, and go through with it if necessary. Might be counter-productive, the ends justify the means kind of approach that allows unspeakable evils in the names of the greater good, but ultimately I think that life's getting better for people, and as competition for scare resources go down we can avoid wars, self destruction ect.
