The other day my buddy was in a 0.6 or 0.7, not sure but anyways he had stopped at a gate to kill off some sansha NPC rats so my indy could get through without any probs. "BUT" the sentry guns began to pummel my buddies Apoc. until there was nothing but a pod left?!? how? why? bug maybe? So my buddy petitioned.
So heres my "real" question: how is it NPC pirates "WITH" Bounty's able to camp gates and destroy every ship that passes by them in 0.1 and higher without Concord, Police or sentry guns attacking them but Player Controled Ships get destroyed on site for gate camping?
P.S. I'm "NOT" a Pirate and neither is my buddy nor am i sticking up for Pirates. This just doesn't seem right to me? I would like to hear from a Dev on this plz also keep all flames and uncronstructive replys to yourself

Please do not tank the threads on the boards... you may get banned and find yourself with the same fate as the Yulai Eight.

dude this has "NOTHING" to do with the Yulai incident, this has to do with my buddy loseing a ship because NPC's gate camping and shooting every ship that passes by without any reprocution and Concord, police or sentry guns not doing anything about it. Next time "READ" the post before replying PLZ

Happend to me once as well (with a cheaper ship though ). I did not even bother to petition (what's the point ); just collected the ensurance, shed a tear about the named mods I lost and went about my way. Since then, I assumed that pirates can gate camp, and open up on me without Concord doing anything. Sucks, but that's the way it is... |

Happend to me once as well (with a cheaper ship though ). Simple answer: NPC pirate factions pay CONCORD to close an eye or two from time to time. ____________________________________________________

I realy don't see what gate camping NPC's add to the game. I personally think they should be removed from the game or at least they should be 150km from the gate like PC pirates.

If you don't work fast enough, I've seen them warp away. And yes it was a warp, cause they left trails.
A 3 battleship spawn, it took us too long to kill the cruiser escorts... we got all cruisers and 2 of the battleships before the final one, a raven, warped away unmolested.
Maybe if we had hit it at least once, it would have stayed, but we were working them over methodically. Last one got away

Seemed a serious answer to me - I've seen and been in events where "pirates" were attacking in high sec space, claiming CONCORD had been paid off and wouldn't interfere.
And since these pirates were talking over local and backing up their claims, it would seem extremely plausible to me. --

do u know what NPC means? (non player controled) u must be thinking of PCP (player controled pirates) there both completely different. i'm talking about the NPC's that r at gates shooting every ship that passes without any problems from Concord, Police or sentry guns?

I wonder what would happen if heavy NPC pirates cavalery - and I mean heavy enough to kill one or two battleships sitting there - would warp to someone sitting around Stargates longer then 15 minutes, at least then the camper can't wine about boringness.

As he says it's events, so polaris controled pirates, not players, the same RP excuses will apply to ploaris as NPCs. Also polaris seem to use the same AI routines as the NPCs

I agree with you Omegatron the npcs camping gate is not to bright (for example one time passing by in a 0.5, 0.4 maybe dont really remember but there were npcs gate camping AND CONCORD ships near gate and they were ignoring each other) i mean wats the deal with that shouldnt CONCORD be attacking them????

So just to clarify - if I see some npc pirates near a warp gate in a 0.5 system and I attack them knowing full well they are pirates, I will be attacked by the sentries because they themselves only see the act of aggression on my part?
What if they attack me.. then the sentries protect me? Just triny to clarify this before I get my ship mailed to me in a little envelope. -----

thats true and also i think it would living things up abit to see Concord and Sansha's Pirates going at it near a gate
But again NPC's should not be able to shoot anything that passes by without and probs from Concord, Police or Sentry guns

it must be a bug because my buddy did get his Apoc back from CCP when he shot NPC's near a gate and got his a$$ handed to him from the Sentry guns.
but ya for now i wouldn't shoot at any NPC at gates until this is fixed
and the whole point of this post is i don't think NPC's should be allowed to camp at gates without any probs

it sucks that your friend got taken out because he engaged the npc. However there are all sorts of roleplay reasons that could be put forward for their reasons at going unmolested. It's not like any of them are of any real threat, even to an indy or a noob ship.

Almost for every "flawed" game mechanic you can come up with a role played reason. However to me it just seems as an excuse to not fix it.
If there are 'pacts' between Concord and certain pirate factions, we certainly want to know in advance. Perhaps in the form of an event?

Easy answer:
Either intentional or bugged, the npc your friend shot has faction ties with the gate owner. When your friend shot the npc, it triggered a KoS.
Nothing new and has happened before, specifically with the Sansha pirate factions and sentry guns.
