Hi, I have a problem where my client crashes every time I try to do 'show info' on a solarsystem (linked or searched in p&p doesn't matter). Also when I hit F11 my client crashes.
One symptom seems to be that I only get white squares with a red circle, red ring with a diagonal stripe, where the solar system picture should be, just before the crash.
I have initial installed the latest build this week, machine it is running on is Vista 32Bits, Geforce 8800GTS, User access control turned OFF.
Has anyone experienced this, or know of a workaround to fix it? My older install didn't have this problem at all.

I guess I'm the only one experiencing this problem...?

Just thought I'd flag that this problem is also present in my Trinity Premium client. I've done complete reinstalls (due to nHancer completely breaking Eve) 3 times, and it's still there.
I'm pretty sure Eve can't handle Vista machines that have UAC turned off, or it can't handle strange character (Swedish) in user names in the Documents.
I will experiment more and then write a bug report, because this sucks...

I occasionally crash when doing a show info on solar systems, never when I hit F11 though. With the sidebar map open though the last box that's supposed to show current solar systems is just white with some barely visible circles indicating where the planets are.

Edited by: Crytan on 14/01/2008 02:08:33 I have this problem also. upon pressing F11 the upper two maps loads just fine while the third map appears blank. after a couple of seconds the entire client crashes to windows. this is the same for fresh installed clients of both classic and premium "content".
I am running Vista Business 32bit and 8800gts with latest release display drivers. Additionally Iplay with EVE sound disabled so that shouldn't be causing the crash. On my part this happens regardless of whether UAC is switched on or off.
The client also crash quite frequently at other odd, appearingly random, moments.
A solution to this problem would be most welcome.

Edited by: Jushiro Ukitake on 14/01/2008 20:21:56 Have the same problem. I have Vista 32bit. Eve client crashes when i open solar system info, or when i press F11 ingame.
Got the solution. For me it was because i had wierd characters in my windows user name. Eve online stores cache in Rootdisk\Users\%UserName%\Appdate\Local\CCP\Cache (for example for me it was C:\Users\Black CofeeÖ\Local\CCP\Cache).
Two solutions actually: Solution1: NOTE: **** THIS SOLUTION IS QUITE RADICAL! YOU SHOULD KNOW WHAT YOURE DOING, OTHERWISE YOU WILL MESS UP YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM!! ****
- Copy entire %Rootdisk\Users\%UserName%\Appdata folder to for example C:\ - Start registry editor (Start->Accessories->Run; Type in "regedit" (without quotes) and press Enter) - Move to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders - Change every key that has %USERPROFILE%\Appdata in it to C:\Appdata (or where you copied the files). Change ONLY %USERPROFILE% part. For example "CD Burning" has value "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Burn\Burn1". Change it to "C:\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Burn\Burn1". - Enjoy Eve-Online
2. solution (alot easier) Create new user account (Start->Control Panel->User Accounts-> Manage Other Account. On Manage Accounts screen Choose "Create New account". DONT USE ANY WIERD CHARACTERS IN YOUR ACCOUNT NAME. Log off, and log in with your new account. - Enjoy Eve Online :)

I do have an T in my profile name, so this might solve the problem. However, I am unsure wether all my settings would transfer correctly? I'm a bit sceptical about editing the registry, as out of experience, this always mess things up. Also, I'd hate to use another account just to play EVE.
Is there no other way to change the account name? I know you can change the displayed account name easily, however it doesn't change the underlying profile name.

After Jushiro Ukitake's suggestion I filed a bug report explaining the problem and the possibility that "odd" characters was the reason for this crash.
Shortly after I received feedback from CCP, where they explained they could not reproduce this crash. This may suggest that odd characters are not the reason for this. Anyone who have tried to change their account name with success?

I get the same crash when opening map. Something about a C++ runtime error.

Easier solution (to test if this was the case) is to create new user account. Name it "test account" or something and give it administrator priviledges. Run Eve-Online from that account just for testing purposes. This way you there is zero possibility of messing your windows installation, and you can always delete your newly created account :)

When I open the starmap it either screws up the graphicssettings so badthat I either have to quit eve and restart the computer before I can play again, or if I'm unlucky it completely locks up so bad that switching of the power is the only way to get it moving again. Now with XP that's rare.

Hi. Can you please send us a bug report with logserver logs about this? I just saw a bug report about this that lead me to this thread. The didn't have any logs, so if anyone has any logs that we can take a look at we can make sure to get this fixed.

I sent a report with logserver logs and a dxdiag file. I referred to you and this thread. I presented a short description and reproduction steps.
What response do I get?
My petition is unclear and that I should edit it.
What really ****es me off is that they don't give me any pointers to what area of the report is unclear.
I'm sorry to say that this is the last time I'll bother trying to help you.
