Can anyone offer advice on what video, CPU, sound cards, etc, seem to work best for getting the client working with Linux?

Right now we are working on getting a working client. Transgaming and CCP's "Official" client doesn't work with Trinity. But other than that I would suggest the best processor. 2 Gig RAM and nVidia card you can afford and a nice speedy 10k HD. That should make you happy for most games.

Sound = anything ALSA supports (OSS is dead, just no, it's dead, in fact the current distro's OSS is in fact ALSA pretending to be OSS). CPU = anything from AMD/Intel. Cegeda seems to have a weird Athlon, Athlon XP bug not shared by Wine. GFX = Nvidia, 6000 series of better. Intel is using mesa-libs (software) for some of it's stuff in Linux and ATi's driver support is well... more pap than I care to imagine.

This is incorrect. The official EVE-Online client for Mac and Linux work with Trinity. The client however does not support the premium content. It will do so in Q1 of 2008. Read more about it here: http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=517

Ooh really? I have tried with the "Official client", Wine AND Cedega (been a paying customer for years). None of them work with trinity that I have tested either classic OR premium. Yet ALL of them work fine with the current Tranquility build. So please do tell how one gets the Trinity classic client to run on either the wrapped client OR through Cedega?

Well, I've just built a new PC and it works fine with Ubuntu 7.10 and EvE. Here's a post on my blog about it - http://matthewmoore.org.uk/blog/?p=116
But basically it is a AM2 3800+, GA-M57SLI-S4. 1gb PC-6400, Asus 7300GT
