Auto patcher is downloading a test patch, patches sections on the website has the same test client, full build is still Revelations.

We made a MISTAKE and forgot to set a flag.
It is an OFFICIAL Patch. It works correctly. It just has Test Patch on it. We are building a new one and will be deploying it tomorrow.
Sorry for the Confusion.

I would imagine that it needs to go to ~/.cedega/somewhere, where the actual game files are.

Edited by: lala rue on 06/12/2007 17:24:58 Edited by: lala rue on 06/12/2007 17:24:18 with wine, you want to point it to /home/(your user name)/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/CCP/EVE
the period in front of the wine dir (.wine) shows it is a hidden directory.
I can get the patch to install in wine but it will not run.
i prefer wine to cedega client as cedega has been giving me issues such as not being able to tab-alt between windows, needing exclusive to my sound card so I can't play my music.

so how are we supposed to install the last patch for eve-online on linux systems ?
I have manually downloaded the file, eveclassicpatch41736-45017-linux.exe, using wine to try to install, but don't know where game directory is located. When started game today, autopatcher downloaded something from eve/cedega.
My /home/username contains following dir with interest...
EVE .cedegavi
Tried specify patch to EVE, and .cedega and all subdirs, but just got error message "EVE-Online does not appear to be located in the selected folder. Please try again".
If I look into the eve-online installation file, eve_000062_all.deb, I can see eve binary file is located in /usr/bin/eve and some files in usr/lib/eve/. Tried both patches when installed patch but still same error message.

Edited by: Shoebox Nutshell on 07/12/2007 03:21:29 wow! great assist, everyone. i made progress to a new obstacle.
i made cedega directory visible, cuz i needed wine to be able to see it and didn't know a better way: mv /home/username/.cedega/ /home/username/cedega/
lala rue's response was very helpful, allowing me to drill down to EVE with wine: /home/username/cedega/EVE\ online/c_drive/Program\ Files/CCP/EVE/
then i renamed /cedega back to /.cedega
then EVE doesn't work anymore, splash and crash. so i'm starting over from the beginning, clobbered ~/.cedega/ and am reinstalling now. will try cedega this time, although i've never worked with it before.
if anyone sees where i'm going wrong, don't be shy, i'm not embarrassed to say i'm linux green. i signed up for EVE for the first time on 12/3 because it looked like so much fun, totally ignorant of the upcoming patch. and what i got to see of the game was totally fun. this part is not as much fun. but it's still a little fun.

Patch worked fine for me (once I read about the test patch naming error)
No major problems at all - if I change the config to sm3 then I occasionally get stargates showing as all white with no features - changing the config back to sm2 fixes this.
I'm running synergy from this machine (it acts as a synergy server) and it no longer works properly - worked fine before although I ran the game under wine not the official transgaming version.
Apart from that it's fine - I'd be interested in knowing about the premium content on Linux - any eta for this? I've seen it under windows and it looks very nice so good job on the graphics (not so much on the gameplay changes but that's a different matter) |

To install the patch manually, run the 'EVE Configuration tool" and select "Install game patch".
You then select the patch to install and the Cedega engine will open the patch in the right environment and allow you to install it.
As stated at launch the Premium content for Linux and Mac is due to be released in Q1 of next year, after TransGaming have made some code upgrades.
I will keep you informed on the progress of this and we will release dates when we know more.

How about an ETA on when the random crash to desktop issue will be looked at? It seems to be a very prevalent problem with both the linux and mac clients. This to me is far more important atm because it makes the game unplayable for most.

automatically patched without any problem. starts up fine. logs in fine. crashes randomly all the time. almost completely unplayable. going into combat is completely out of the question, so pretty much anything involving undocking is out of the question too. I'm paying to play this game, and ever since the big upgrade I haven't been able to do much of anything. I expected to see another update by now, but since I haven't seen one, so I'm here asking when I will. It really is nice when you can use the things you pay for. If I don't hear anything about this soon I'll have no choice but to cancel my subscription. |

I'm with you, it's been 10 days, am I going to get charged for whole month, when already 1/3 of the month I haven't been able to login to my game?

Same here. I don't know how things look from space, but here on Earth when you buy something - like a video game for example - and that something doesn't work, you get refunded.
So, seriously, how about: CCP gives a free subscription to all Linux/Mac paying customers to apologize for the fact they cannot use their product? This is the only responsible conduct one can expect from a supposedly serious company.
Apologies are fine, but they will find more open ears after CCP assumes its responsibilities. "Hey, I stole you car - and I'm gonna keep it - but I'm sorry for that so we're cool, right?" kinds of attitude don't rank very high in modern PR practices... Even down on good ol' Earth.
