So I've been running EVE up until Trinity through crossover 6.2.0, because the performance is way better than the 'mac client' (I have a MacBook with the pathetic Intel 950 integrated graphics) and every thing's been fine. I try and run the classic setup for trinity and it tells me "This installer requires admin access, try again". I try updating my existing client and that works, except it then tells me D3DX is not installed (which it is, since it ran before) and Eve just does nothing after the splash screen. Anyone have similar issues, or possibly a solution (other than getting a better computer)?

The DirectX installer fails silently due to the lack of admin access, which is why you get that message about D3DX not being present. If you can, log in as admin, attempt the install again, and then log out. You should then be able to play the game.

I'm not entirely sure how to log in as an administrator in crossover, I would have assumed it was setup that way as default. If not though, does anyone know how to do this?
I actually gave up on crossover and went all out and installed Boot Camp, just for playing Eve, and it works great! Having to reboot every time is a pain though, so if a workaround for crossover could be found that would be fantastic.

Hi Atropos,
there is still some issue with CCP checking for D3DX at startup. Please have a look into it here:
D3Dx startup issue <-- click me!
I have this issue petitioned for over a week now and no reply - same with the forums postings too ...

I have a vague memory of the admin problem coming up before, and the solution was to change the version of Windows that Crossover (or in that case, I think, Wine) reports itself as - possibly from "XP" to "Windows 2000", and then run the installer. I'm not sure if that's any help... |
