Edited by: Veskya on 06/12/2007 20:31:41 Is there any way to force the client to a specific resolution with cedega? I want to run it in 1920x1080 in windowed mode but i cannot select this resolution ingame.

Option "MetaModes" "[resolution]"
under the "Device" section in /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Option "Coolbits" "1" Option "NoLogo" "1" Option "RenderAccel" "true"

Well, you're trying to get xrandr to output that as a usable resolution, so the only other thing i can think of is a wrapper.

I already tried various things with ModeLines etc but it seems that it wont accept that resolution at all.

Official client, "EVE Online configuration"
Configure options, go the graphics tab:
apply and then run the game.
The misleading thing about this dropdown is it will support ANY window you want, but only lists what it "sees".
Hope that helps.
EVE 'should' see the resolution and change to it. If not, you may need to add modelines to xorg.conf to give additional choices.
---my screen section as an example:
Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Videocard0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 Option "TwinView" "0" Option "metamodes" "1920x1200 +0+0; 1600x1200 +0+0; 1280x1024 +0+0; 1280x960 +0+0; 1280x800 +0+0; 1152x864 +0+0; 1024x768 +0+0; 832x624 +0+0; 800x600 +0+0; 640x480 +0+0" EndSection
This was installed by running the nvidia-settings tool. In EVE by putting that 'odd' rez in the 'options dialog above, it shows up as a choice when eve is run "fullscreen" in that window.

Adding the metamodes line gives me the same error as posted above, adding a modeline for the resolution will result in the nvidia driver not starting up anymore. Changing the cedega virtual desktop settings doesnt help either as i still cant select that resolution ingame.

Then, back up your copy of xorg.conf.
Then from the command line run "sudo nvidia-settings" so that it has admin rights. Now using the nvidia settings tool have a look at the monitor and its settings. Have the nvidia tool update xorg.conf with that. Now compare the old xorg.conf with the new one and REMOVE the old screen/monitor/device stuff and LEAVE the nvidia supplied ones.
Keep the old xorg.conf just in case the new one is messed up some how.
This is all moot though if the nvidia settings tool doesn't see this monitor capable of the resolution you want. (It should though.)
Once you've gotten this set properly, restart X (gdm, kde, whatever) and try again.

The Nvidia settings tool doesnt list that resolution either, seems that the monitor doesnt support it or is not detected correctly. But even if the monitor doesnt support it that shouldnt matter since i want to run it in a window anyway and not fullscreen. If i remember right i were able to select that resolution when i used wine and switched the client to windowed mode, but cedega doesnt let it switch to windowed.

Edited by: Adel Sorra on 07/12/2007 19:22:48 what i wanted to do was something like 3840x1024
// kind of off topic i already tried the metamode stuff and the hack that was proposed, but this seems to only work in twinview (the 'hack' to get a resolution that can be selected in eve would be something like 2560x1024,NULL; 1280x1024,1280x1024 [; ...])
still searching
